Budget my friend... the will be around for a bit (hopefully) so put a $100 away here and there and hopefully you can get them at some point. They are amazing, not gonna lie lol...

I hate the cap on the Fifth, and especially in black. Its a nice "casual" bal in walnut and brown, but for black, i wouldn't wear them. Go with the PA's, they are cleaner looking and much more appropriate for a black shoe that you are wearing to a funeral. And this is coming from someone who loves a brogue cap...

Just a random Clifton update for today:

I don't wear these often enough, and I swear every time I wear them I wonder why I haven't. I think I realized today that the last shape and the toe is just elegant enough without being too pointy. And the toe cap is just about the perfect size. They also are incredibly comfortable for me.

These shoes do not get nearly enough credit.

I'm probably going to see if I can get both the black and walnut from the 2 for $300 sale...

    much more appropriate? really?

One strip of broguing is making that much of a difference for you?

no one, and I repeat, NO ONE, will give a shit about your shoes at a funeral unless they are completely outlandish. no one will give a second look to a PA or FA.

+1. I started with zero pairs of boots in October of last year and now I have 17 pairs. For me, it's an addiction, an obsession that has my wife worried. It's also been a good learning process but our finances have taken a hit since I discovered shell. But I still like CXL a lot. Am looking forward to seeing what AE releases this fall in the way of boots since I really feel AE doesn't have much selection in boots.

Do they run as long as the PA/strands?

This is the list of shoes I received. The sale is through the outlets, so you need to contact them. They are seconds, I believe.

One contact is freeport@allenedmonds.com . You can just email them and them what is available in your size.

The following styles will be included in the 2 for $300 outlet promotion July 23rd - Aug 5th
    Neumora black, brown
    Shelton walnut w/ brown saddle (1st and 2nd Q)
    LaSalle black
    Clifton black, walnut
    Winnetka brown (1st Q and 2nd Q)
    Golf - all factory seconds
Brooks dress casual (currently $179) - Presidio, Shelton, Elgin, McTavish, Montgomery, San Marco, Boat
Previous outlet make ups - Burton, Cortland, Hastings, Fairfax, Hinsdale, Mapleton, Hale, Parkland, Milford, Weybridge

I'm not 100% sure, as I don't own any 5-last shoes, but I think they are. The 5 shoes tend to feel a little narrow to me; I think these have a little more room in the toe box. There are on the 8 last.

I've recently come to the conclusion that AE could create a real winner of a shoe if it created a balmoral captoe on the 8 last as part of the Independence Collection. Sleek, elegant and just perfect for the reasons you all have mentioned in finding the Clifton's toe cap to be perfect.

IMO, the 8 last is probably AE's best.

Just got a new pair of walnut Strands. Is there anything I need to apply before wearing them? Waterproofing? And what should I get for regular care?

Try some leather conditioner to start, AE leather conditioner, Venetian Shoe Cream, or Saphir Renovateur. Opinions will differ as to which is best, but any will do.

Great idea. I'm in complete agreement, obviously.

I was under the impression that Independence shoes were exclusively on the 3 last, but after checking the website, that is incorrect. There is no reason they couldn't do a higher quality shoe on the 8 last.

I'd suggest checking with the Shoebank first, just to make certain there are no seconds in your size and preferred style. AE shell seconds look to run about $300 and you get the bonus of breaking them in to your own feet.

I think too pricey for the amount of wear. On the other hand, with AE producing fewer shell shoes, it might be harder to find them at discounts. I'd try emailing the shoe bank to see if they have any seconds on hand, and what they would cost before committing to these.

EDIT: random-adam beat me to it!

Thank you both - I got an e-mail from AE shoe bank yesterday...

They said they had no seconds, yet their 1st qualities were 399 (good price). The only thing I saw was the Meermin burgundy shell for about 330 (same style). Problem is I can't try on a pair of the Meermin's so if I need to send them back the price difference would soon decrease

Fall line up? Does any one know when the fall line up is coming out? Specifically has anyone seen the new low boot? Any pictures around?
