Could be truffle. I tried on a pair of Dundees that looked exactly like that. They didn't fit tho, so I had to acquit.

First day really wearing my new Rutledges... The leather on the upper is incredible. Are the other Indy line shoes made from the same leather and quality?

Yep. Love my Jeffersons and Rutledges. Got them both for a steal, wish I'd picked up the others when they were still available on clearance.

The Indy leather is double-tanned and ends up pretty buttery. The closeouts of Jefferson/Rutledge/etc. last year represented some of the best AE deals I've seen. Really top-notch shoes.

I love that rogue burnishing wheel - making good shoes less expensive! Looking forward to pics of the de-burnishing . . .

My guess is that the shoes were in the box a while; I saw this with one of the Rutledge pairs I picked up. Several have noted that Indy line shoes don't polish to as high a glass as typical calfskin AE shoes - just speculating, but polish may not penetrate as much on that lovely buttery leather. Some conditioner (I like Bick 4) should help.

One thing to watch - I've seen a few pairs of Rutledges where the heels were misaligned. Essentially, if you force the heel to sit flat, the sole under the ball of your foot will be up in the air. It was pretty extreme on one pair I bought and I sent them in for replacement heels (shoes can be seconds due to cosmetic defects, but not structural ones, so AE fixed that on the house). May not be an issue, especially if you put vibram / topy soles on, but FYI.

Thanks guys. Feel very fortunate to score both of them. The strand color is walnut. Similar to some Alden ravello shades. Most that I've seen develop a real nice olive tone over time. As you observed, these have it right out of the box.

Shawnc those were the bnib Patriots right? I had my eye on them as well. Sold for less than I thought but AE just isn't the fashion brand Alden is. I almost got in there but didn't want to take a big loss if the last didn't work for me. I did buy a less expensive pair in brown shell though though... I'll let you now if those don't work!

I have the Harrison in walnut. I find the leather quite similar to the Carmina Annonay vegano that they use. Speculating if vegano was used for the Indy lines as they feel quite similar.

Couldn't resist the recent flash sales and broke my self-imposed moratorium of shoe purchase.

MacNeil brown grain 2.0 from Shoebank.

They are darker than the picture in real life (I will try to take a pic under natural light - weather permitting) and the grain surface is not that prominently visible. My intent is to wear them as business casual, but I would not have any problem wearing them with suit to the office.

[IMG] Ashbury with jeans on this snowy, casual Friday. These shoes never seemed to get much love around the forum, but I've enjoyed them. They're comfortable, and have really broken in nicely over the past couple years. These are actually tan - you can see how much they've naturally darkened in two years. They look better now than when I got them- the creases have created almost a natural cap toe which I think looks nice. I get lots of compliments on them.

So the description for the Sea Island states that it's made in the DR, but it retails for $295 and isn't from the AE line. Anyone heard anything about moving main line production all the way offshore, or is that a typo?

    They look fantastic, congrats again.

My Strands are on the lighter side of brown and have a bunch of variation between panels. I love them and really need to wear them more often.

$295 for a DR made, non recraftable loafer... I really liked these but AE is making it hard to justify them at that price point. $225 would have been the sweet spot for these imo. If they were going to use CF Stead suede they should have went all out and done them in the USA and recraftable and put them at like $345.

I'm trying to figure out how much to take off. Anyone got a pair of Rutledge's that have good burnishing on them?

I need Strands in walnut shell to round out my collection. Does anyone have a lead on them in 12 EEE?
