When I say it was too long I meant that the widest part of my foot was not aligning with the widest part of the shoe. I did have a 65 bal (McAlister) in between the McGregor and the Strand. The McAlister was 8e and fit good length wise but was too narrow (huge v gap) so I sent them back for some 8ee Strands as they didn't have any McAlisters in 8ee. I'll see what CSC says. Really want some oxblood shoes! And a little on the casual side like the McGregor. Any ideas on other shoes just in case?

Great pairs! It's nice to see some shark love out there. Makes me feel better. For years I went to a psychiatrist for an inferiority complex. After years of therapy he decided it wasn't a complex; I was just inferior.

In oxblood, that's about it when it comes to brogues. The Grayson may be similar in formality, but that's a whole different thing. Oxblood is a more formal color alternative being just behind black, so it isn't going to be a priority color choice for more casual brogues like the MacNeil or Leiden. I'm honestly surprised the McGregor came in it (notice the dainite sole version doesn't). Personally, I've been itching for a pair of merlot McA's, but just can't justify the expense. I'll probably get a pair off eBay at a later date. Good hunting.

Great shoes - love the lighter laces with jeans. Been hoping they would bring something like this into their spring lineup.

They do have them and in brown grain. Not my size, so it's moot, but thanks for the pointer.

I've only seen Players in suede. Didn't realize they were in normal leathers, too.

I'm going to take my chance at the 1943. I have plenty of room in the toe box on my current shoes, it's the instep that smooshes me on the 65 last, so I think it might work. And I like the shoes I've seen on it... at least pictures of them.

Haven't decided fancy or casual yet, but I don't think I can go wrong. Nobody but me is going to know I prefer short wings if I get the wingtip, so it fits the dressy casual to a T. The Cornwallis is a really nice looking shoe and, frankly, nobody notices that I'm over-fancy when I wear my Rutledge with denim, even though I got them thinking to wear them to dress up slacks.

Either way, that dark brown burnished goes with everything, and is a color I could wear easily if I wanted to be conservative with a suit or navy slacks and a nice shirt.

Perhaps I will have to put a hold on the Oxblood and get some walnut McGregors instead...

Except, you can get the Macneil in burgundy shell. [IMG]

I thought about mentioning that, but I'm not trying to talk anyone into going broke like some of you are. [IMG]

    Went with the Cornwallis.

No Leidens. I just can't do the long wings as I want the dark brown and more conservative. Though, that said, I think a walnut or chili pair with the weave would be an awesome pair. I'd probably have to talk with a southern accent when I wore them, though.

Wife is currently in the hospital for the next few weeks on bed rest (expecting our first child in a couple weeks), which gives me the opportunity to use my new AE Strand duffle bag as an overnight bag. Love this thing. Soft sturdy leather, easy to carry, nice capacity.

Haha, don't worry, priorities are in the right order/place. Just wanted to snap a few photos of the bag as I was getting it out to put some clothes in it.

    Thanks!

For a Wintry Walnut Wednesday Walkin'' around town, I went with my Walnut Bleecker Streets—an oddity in my AE collection in that it's a size smaller than my usual, but equal width and SOMEHOW is one of my most comfortable pairs in the family. Yeah, a BCF find at $119.00 and I wish the Chili ones were in my size , but they're were two sizes too big.

I don't know if it's the little bit of extra shock absorption from the V-Tap rubber on the sole, but these are a pleasure to stroll in. :)

Pep-style coffee shot on the subway platform, paired with my “chick-magnet” Thierry Mugler houndstooth wool overcoat. :)

In today's edition of nice shoes on cheap carpet ....

The Rutledge is my favorite AE model (though black is admittedly less exciting than the other options) ...

Gents I need some insight, bit frustrated. I ordered a pair of Macneil Shells before the Holidays and I received them today. The Craftsmanship is embarrassing to me. Spots where they started to sew the shell made a mistake and undid it, the wing is hanging on like a chad, and parts of the shell won't sit flat with the shoe.

    Am I over reacting here?

Some pics. Again these are First Quals.

Unfortunately, this seems to be typical of Allen Edmonds these days. I had two pair of shell come in last year like this that they made for me in a non-stock size. They were my last pairs as I just feel like the quality of the product has plummeted while the prices are going up.
