There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I really like the "natural wax" color of the McTavish, but really wish it was a blucher instead of a balmoral since I want to wear them with jeans.

Anyone know if there are any AE shoes in this color blucher style? The closest "rough looking" wingtip I could find in a blucher was the Rough MacNeil

Sorry new to this - what is a blucher vs balmoral?

A blucher (derby shoe) has the metal shoelace eyelets on the top of the vamp, meaning they are visible. A balmoral (or oxford) shoe has them beneath the vamp, meaning that the laces look like they go directly into the leather instead of into a round piece of metal. As a result of the eyelets showing, the blucher is considered more casual. Bluchers can also be called "open laced" and balmorals can be called "closed laced."

This is incorrect. It has nothing to do with metal eyelet placement. It has to do with the structure of the shoe. On a balmoral, the laces go into the vamp, as the vamp sits on top of the rear quarters. On a blucher, the laces go into the rear quarters, which sit on top of the vamp. The balmoral has a closed-lace pattern, while a blucher has an open-lace pattern.

You can wear the McTavish with jeans. The prejudice against bals with jeans is a personal one. If you have not done so already, put on a pair of jeans and try on the McTavish. If you're at Nordstrom, you can probably try on the jeans the too (to see which matches best).

Took my mcallisters to the cobbler for rubber sole guards...what does one typically pay for this? It was 39, which I wasnt anticipating. But alas now I will be able to wear shoes I bought 2 months ago.

I wear my McTavish with jeans all the time. They're a great casual shoe.

I paid $35 for mine, so you are in the ballpark.

Out of curiosity, why couldn't you wear them? Not enough traction?

+1. Jeans are one of the best choices for that shoe.

That was me. To update, have worn the Strands a couple more times and the fit is fine, just have a wide V, though even after just a few times of wear, the V is smaller. This was when they were brand new out of the box. Maybe after a few months I'll do a before and after.

Well I switched the color. (Bought them in black, exchanged for merlot) I just don't like black shoes. I wanted to save these for an interview if one came up in the future but I can still wear merlot to the interview and be fine. I plan on getting PA in black during the the annual sale along with walnut strands. (which is the epitome of a beauitful shoe IMO).

So when I saw my parents this weekend I asked them to bring the recipt with them so I could exchange. I moved out back in May.

I could have worn them this week but I walk to work, 1.5 miles away so I wanted a little protection, I know what all that walking does on just leather soles because some of my loafers are somewhat beat up.

just got my RL sanderson from the tent sale, they came in with the RL blue box. They are a sleek pair of shoes. nothing major just a slight scratch on the plug, even if marked second. I also took some pictures in comparison to Alden LWB. I have to say that the sanderson/jefferson is sleeker than Alden LWB, but both are good shoes!

Congrats! Those have been on my wishlist for awhile. How much at the tent sale?

$225 after tax. I don't believe RL ever sale at this price point so I couldn't resist to pull the trigger....correct me if I am wrong.

Just got my walnut shell strands today from the tent sale. Look very nice. The only thing I found is that the stitching on the sole around the toe of the left shoe is probably farther out than it should be. I have a picture of the right and left toe separately and together for comparison. I don't think its a big deal, you have to look closely to spot it. This is actually my first pair of AE's on the 5 last and they feel great. I am really happy I got these at such a good discount. Another pair of shells to add to the collection. This thread needs some more pictures so here are the shell models I have now. Hoping to continually add more over time!

Its on the 8 last which is slightly tighter on the toe box for me than the 5 (strand, PA, etc). I'd personally size up in width, although I've made due with a 10d (which I also wear in the 5 last)

My apologies. My source was inaccurate then (wikipedia).

    Someone should correct it.

It isn't really wrong, just unclear.

Quote: The phrase "eyelet tabs" does not refer to the metal rings inside the eyelets, but to the larger tabs of leather containing the eyelet holes. Some have metal rings, some don't

I'd really appreciate some help. I really like the Strand but in black. I didn't see it on the tent sale pdf that I was sent so would I contact one of the stores or is there another way of going about it?
