    Both look amazing!

But I'm really digging the merlot polished version. Very tempted to get a suitable oxblood shoe and merlot polish to try to replicate that myself...

How versatile was it for matching - similar to true merlot shoes? The pictures looks like it has a lot of the purple hue but it could just be the lighting.

Agreed. I like Chili as a color in general, but I love the dark toe. Totally accentuates this design. The black is nice, I guess, but doesn't show the brogeuing off.

It's good for me, too. Normally, I just wear black. Goes with everything, never have to think about it, and I was wearing crappy shoes anyway. I'm lazy that way. Too many years of living out of a suitcase where I want everything to work with everything. But I'm trying to get away from black.

Chili is dark enough to go with every pair of pants I normally wear, denim to khaki to navy, but it still has some flash to it.

Ok all of you AE shoe mavens, an open questions about AE colored laces. I ducked into the SLC AE store in a rainstorm today and picked up the box of laces in multiple colors. I need the collective wisdom and style sense of the group to opine on these laces with black, walnut and chili shoes, all blucher shoes, no closed laces. What color of lace would you pair with each shoe? Which ones are quirky versus stylish versus just plain ugly. What comments have you received on your lace choices in the wild? Rspond with pictures of your shoe and lace combination will be most welcome. What say you?

Has anyone seen the new unlined chukka in person (Mojave 2)? Have been lusting for a an unlined snuff suede chukka in my price point for a while that I can actually try on before I buy. I am unfamiliar with the last (809) and I am looking to purchase a chukka that will look nice with chinos, jeans, flannels and odd jackets. Or does a "web jem" on ae's mean it is not in the brick and mortar stores? I checked the shop on east 46th in nyc and they didn't even know what I was talking about.

Black and black/blue/lilac/green all could work. Red if you're feeling a bit bold. Orange if it's Halloween. Yellow if it's Halloween and you're dressed as a bumblebee (or if they were your school colors).

    Walnut and...maybe green?

Chili and red seems like it would work but it's not great. Blue might be okay?

I was interested in the Mojave 2 until I found out it isn't recraftable. The Mojave 2 is a only available online.

As for the 809 last, I found it a bit short when ordering the same length as my 5 last shoes and needed to go up a half size in length to my 511 last size.

They're making a $385 chukka on a butyl sole that can't be resoled? Ugh

I'm not sure that is accurate, it only says they are not eligible for AE recrafting. They are goodyear welted so one would think a cobbler should be able to resole them

I wonder why. Maybe because they're unlined with a flat welt? Is this suede that fragile?

One would think they would have used a more durable sole, like Dainite. Butyl is by far the softest. Probably the cheapest, too.

Thought butyl was tough stuff? Or is it just waterproof?
Anyway, I can take to B Nelson in nyc if Goodyear. Just need to be able to try on the damn things. They look great

droppin $$ on black PA, walnut strand, merlot mcallister..... 3 matching poplar belts, shoe care products.. etc etc tomorrow.

I'm definitely going to do xxx inspections at the store to make sure the firsts are indeed worthy of being called firsts.

I agree. Love the look of the merlot polish on those Daltons. Makes for a nice option as long as they continue to sell the merlot polish.

Those of you that have the Jefferson or any shoe with the Independence line shoe, would you say that the lining and footbed flatten over time? Picked up the brown Jefferson 0.5 size bigger, as they didn't have my size, and they are almost perfect, just a tiny bit loose.

Also, are they supposed to be burnished brown? I noticed some inconsistent dying around the eyelets, which I think will go away with polishing.

Overall, I am very impressed with the shoe, and seriously thinking about picking up the the walnut, as well.

Thanks for the list. Do you know if they normally carry the Dalton in other colors, like oxblood or chili?

Thanks guys. The pictures of the merlot polish show them a bit more purple than their hue in ample light. Those pics were taken in the shade, and their color versatility wasn't any different from the usual burgundy/oxblood/merlot color, but that's just my opinion - To me those colors are very similar to the point where I usually pair them with the same complimentary colors.

if these are your first AE purchases, I would highly recommend you get an SA to ensure the shoes fit perfectly. Nothing worse (well many things can be worse...) than ending up with three ill-fitting pair or shoes, only to frustratingly sell semi-worn shoes at a significant lost.

btw, your shoe choices are great.

I have 2 stores near me

    Oakbrook, IL and Chicago, IL

I am indeed planning on going into the store to make sure fit is on point and I'll get the ability to inspect my goods prior to whippin out the credit card :)
