The sand suede makes a nice summer shoe.

    Couple of questions:

    1. Do you think the uppers are too close on these to keep? I recently sized down from a 10.5C to a 10D on the 5 last for the first time after using a few pairs of 10.5Cs I got on ebay for a while, and am wondering whether I should in fact have gone a 10C. These feel pretty good, but I'm worried that with a bit of stretching over time the uppers will come too close together to be able to lace tightly since they're so close already.

For reference, here are my 10.5C Fifth Aves which I have had for a while, the laces of which I feel close pretty correctly (I had assumed that the width of the 10D Park Ave would be the same as the 10.5C Fifth Ave following the usual rules...):

    2. Weird question, but how do your AE shoe trees fit? Mine don't seem to slide all the way in, getting caught at the vamp somewhat, meaning that if I press down on the cap toe, at least half of it has no tree inside it. Should they go all the way down into the cap toe, or is this normal?

This is an AE woodlore tree size M ie the recommended size (http://tinyurl.com/chhlf4g) in a 10D Park Ave.

    Thanks

In my opinion, the lacing of the first pair looks indeed a little bit too close. Whether you should keep them depends how much you paid for them. If they are new, I'd consider an exchange.

Generally speaking, both shoes look a little bit long, judging by the position of the crease. I'd suggest to get the Allen Edmonds shoes sizing guide, and measure the length of your feet. Just to make sure.

The sizing guide is a bit generous (about half a size for many AE lasts) but the last time I looked, it seems to works fine for the 5-65 last. Some people seem to size up for this last, probably because it's slightly more narrow and also more flat in the instep when compared to other AE lasts.

How much is the shipping of the shoes within US?
I was quoted 175 for 2 pairs for an international order.

Thanks for the reply. Had them shipped internationally from Endless so returning them and getting a new pair will be about $70. Hmm

The 10.5Cs might be a touch too long, but I don't think the 10Ds could be. My feet both measure almost exactly 11" (right foot slightly shorter). I can already feel the 10D rubbing my little toe a tiny bit, I think a smaller size would crush it (as might a 10C...).

To the (fellow) Canadian guy yelling about the shoes from the outlets. Call in and make your order, and ask them to ship with USPS; if you don't do that, they might do it with UPS. If you let them do it with UPS you'll have to pay quite a bit.

I had two pairs ordered with USPS and paid about $50 when I got them, which isn't so bad.

Thanks for the replies about the fit; I'll try a different last, I'm confident it'll fit better.

Saphir Medaille D'or creme recommendations please:

Purchased some Walnut McAllisters and Brown Burnished Strands. Could I get a recommendation on what color Saphir polish to buy? I've only ever dealt in black and Brown Kenilworths, so these colors are new to me. Thanks, GHo.

For the Walnut McAllister I use Cognac #10 polish. They do not have a cream in that color so you could go lighter for a cream, I still haven't picked up a light brown cream yet. Just like the AE cognac polish the #10 will keep the lighter color of the factory walnut color.

The Brown Burnished Strands look almost identical in color to my Jefferson's which the Dark Brown #5 matches perfectly. If the sun finally comes out and plays well tonight I'll try to post some pics.

What does everybody think about the new Allen Edmonds Webgems? I'm liking the tan/khaki twill for summer and the brown/olive twill for fall.

I'm liking this new Webgem program - it's kind of nice to see some limited edition / limited time offers every now and then.

^^ Indeed. I like the current batch of webgems, especially the more pronounced brogueing. More casual, but that fits for summer.

My replacement burgundy cordovan Leeds arrived. I'm happy to report that the left and right shoes match this time around.
I am surprised however, to note that they were made of imported leather ... I assumed that AE used Horween cordovan?

The Shoe Bank has a 2 for $200 sale going on. Check the AE website and contact the Shoe Bank and they will send you a list of available styles in your size.

Congrats - enjoy wearing your new Leeds. AE sources their shell cordovan from Horween, which sources its horse hides from Canada and Europe, from what I understand.

wow that's a lotta suede for the summer!

personally my preference for the player's suede is dark chocolate > navy > sand > white

I have send in my pair of sand suede for an exchange of the same shoe because I did not like the pair that I got. too many defect in it. We'll see how the new pair play out.

Just a note that you don't have to contact the Shoe Bank in particular. Any AE outlet store should be able to send you the list for your size.

Thanks for the input. My order for the Tresana and Vinci in 12B arrived today. I can confirm that the Tresana is slightly larger than the Vinci. The Vinci basically seem TTS where I'd probably prefer the fit of the Tresana if it were an 11.5B.

That said, they are both nice looking shoes. I really like the dark brown color on the "cordovan" Tresana. Mine are both marked as seconds on the sole but the defects are negligible.
