I can't wait for my cordovan Daltons.
Very true - but i wonder why they would want to reduce inventory so quickly, and reduce profit per pair so drastically at the same time... I would think that the sales volume of their shell shoes is rising, not falling (of course, this is coming from my somewhat jaded perspective).
Maybe they are planning to add some new shell models, and want to make room for those?
Me neither! I may be able to get them tomorrow, on the way past my AE crack dealer outlet store. If so, I will post pics here. Here's hoping!
I'm working on re-building my business shoe collection. Any reason I should not get the cambridge in burgundy as go-to non-black shoe? I'd be wearing them with navy or grey wool pants. I have a pair of black strands and brown chromexcel boots so far.
Was not planning on getting shoes today... but it's hard to pass this up!
No reason at all, buy...
Just got shipping confirmation on my shell Leeds.
I think it's a great go-to. Go for it!
Please post some some pics when you get 'em!
They are a great shoe - but there have been questions about whether or not they are part of the current sale... If not available, the MacNeil or Leeds would work well too. Good luck.
IMO, If you are only going to have one brown dress shoe I would hold out for an oxford rather than a derbie.
Agreed! I go against the SF grain without regard. I wear my Walnut strands with a suit all the time. I think wingtips are more formal and more office friendly than a plain toe. But I would never wear a derby with a suit. I think it is more appalling than any other shoe with a suit rule.
However, if a Navy McNeil were available in my size on sale I may have to bend.
My cordovan Strands shipped today!
I know some say AE's quality has gotten worse, but boy, was I in for a shocker today.
The Cappuccino shell McAllisters I ordered from the AE came in, and holy cow, I would not have considered these seconds, never mind full price.
I mean, it was bad. Leather on the bottom was all cracked and peeling (along with a square dent), nail head in heel was not in all the way, front top was splotchy and scratched (if only this, I would have kept and buffed out), what looks like a glue stain inside.
Have many other AE's, and Alden shells, and know some imperfections are to be expected, and can tolerate a lot, but this was a shocker. Needless to say, they are going back.
That is completely ourtrageous. Are their QA line people drunk or something?
My jaw hit the floor. I oversee a large plant with full scale assembly for a living, including QC, engineering, etc., so I know first hand that sometimes things "get out", and am probably more lenient than most here when it comes to a few imperfections (character I tell myself). But this, no way. I just could not believe it.
I have been a very satisfied AE customer, I own 5 pairs. This may be a deal breaker for me.
