Same last, same design on the upper. Cambridge is made of shell cordovan and has a double-oak Rendenbach sole with a dovetailed heel, McAllister is made of calfskin and has a single-oak AE sole with a rubber toplift.

I'm not sure how often (if ever again) the $399 (for firsts) shell sale will happen again. I think the general consensus is that they were trying to clear out some inventory, in preparation for going to a made-to-order approach to shell cordovan shoes going forward.

The shell seconds are the ones that were $299.

Ok, guys. Pulled the trigger on some Sheltons for $169. First big surprise: free shipping! I thought there was a standard $10 or $15 charge when having shoes shipped from the outlets. First time ordering 2nds. I tried to get some shell leeds 2nds when they had their last sale but they were out in my size. :(. Wish me luck that I'll get some good ones.

I'll post some pix and overall experience when I get them.

So, while taking out my Randolphs to snap the photos above I finally took out the little paper insert that was tucked into a sort of slot on the underside of the box lid. The paper unfolded read as follows:

Now let me be clear -- I did not buy these from an AE store. There is a store in lower manhattan near wall street called "Stapleton" -- they run a daily deal on AE shoes that is buy one get the other 50% off. Rhey do not, however, carry the newest styles, but, last time I was there (about a year ago) I bought my walnut strands and got my chili Randolphs for 50% off. That insert talks about Randolphs being AEs most popular Cordovan, but I know they dont (currently) make the Randolphs in Chili Cordovan -- did they ever? Did I score cordovans for super cheap? How can I tell?

Here are pics of the bottom of the shoes as well as a shot of the label on the box which unfortunately was half torn when I got it:

I'm a complete noob when it comes to shoes in general but specifically with Cordovan leather, so be gentle!

Either way, I love these shoes!

I walked by Stapleton's on Saturday and saw that they were running that deal. Did not know it was a daily deal.

Doesn't look like cordovan, from the kind of creasing in the uppers.

As far as I know it is. It is limited to only in stock shoes, they say, however they didnt have the Strands and I told the guy I was only interested in the Strands and without that I was not going to buy another pair. He made a call and said he can get me the strands in a few days and he did. So, if you do go, I'd say there is room for agreements there.

Cordovan is unmistakable, it has a harder waxy feel to it, and the creasing would be different too because of it. My guess is you got the wrong insert...

Yea, from the few times I handled Cordovan in stores I didnt think these were, but after seeing the insert (which, yea, was probably inadvertently put in this box) and realizing that I really have no clue about Cordovan, I figured I would leave it to the pros on SF.

    Thanks!

I stopped by my local menswear / shoe store at lunch and they said they would match the AE sale prices. I had been looking at the Walnut McAllister they had in stock in my size - since they matched the sale price, they are now mine. It actually worked out better for me as the AE website shows my size available in 3-5 weeks. I also don't mind paying the sales tax knowing I'm helping a smaller local store.

I'll post some photos when I get a chance. I know these are similar to my Walnut Lombards, but you can never have too many walnut wingtips.

Same holds true for Endless.com, which is owned by Amazon.

Don't think I'd disagree with that one.... I just ordered the burgundy shell Cambridge. And backed out on the black shell Park Ave. on sale. Just not sure I would wear the black PA that much so will wait until the Memorial Day sale at the exchange and pick up the black calf PA then. I had planned and budgeted to order 2 pair of shoes so I requested a quote on the Jefferson in brown from the Independence line. Someone posted a picture of theirs a few pages back and I keep going back to look at them. Have the McAllister in walnut calf and the Strand in walnut shell but I'm going to argue with myself and say the Stand isn't a wingtip [IMG]

Please post pics of you walnut wingtips! I have my walnut Jefferson's coming on Wednesday from Nordstrom after 3 weeks of wait. I'm thinking about a black Mcallister with the current sale.
