What model is that? I've just recently started to glance at AE shoes, and I'm interested in Strand amongst others (last #5 I believe?) My question to you guys is which size would you recommend me to purchase based on my sizes in the following (all normal/regular widths): C&J, 348 & 337: UK7,5 Vass, U & F: EU41,5 Carmina, Rain & Forest: UK7,5 Carmina, Simpson: UK8 G&G, MH71, GG06 & TG73: UK8 Any advise (besides "try them in person")? Thanks.

    I'm 8.5UK in simpson, 42 in Vass f-last and 8UK in rain....so that's pretty consistent with yours

I'm a 9E in the 5-last, which means you are either an 8.5D or 8.5E in the 5-last. If the simpson fits you perfectly, try 8.5E. If there's some room in the simpson last, try 8.5D.

Thank you for your answer. There's no room width-wise in the Simpsons. Based on that I should opt for US8,5E, correct? Is D standard width? Also, mind sharing the name of your shoes above? They look awesome!

EDIT: or did you mean US8E (or US8,5D if there's room in the Simpsons)?

    Yup, opt for 8.5E.

That's the Fifth Avenue in the 5-last.

Good job picking them grey PAs. Don't wear them until you dye them - it will make it easier due to not having any creasing. First use de glazer / ace tone rubbing the polish once the grey colour stripped use a spray to dye the shoe. Now you will havers make 2 coats on 2-3hours difference. I have a pictorial on this colour change . Try finding using search. Navy PA are the best and most versatile !

Hey I got same hint of creasing on the captoe just like this guy. Is it normal? AE ended up saying it shouldnt happen and exchanged it for him. I am too lazy to mess with it, but I dont want it to get any worse (it only crease there if I am bending my feet alot). People say it can also be caused by shoe being too long. Maybe I should get 9.5E instead of 10D for 5 last in the future? (The shoe does feel pretty comfortable though..)

I have this also on my Harrison. I also suspect it's from the shoe being slightly too long. These were from Amazon so no chance of a replacement from AE. I added a tongue pad with the hopes it might help somewhat. Will just deal with it.

I have this happening on some shoes that seem to fit perfect though the lacing gab is fairly wide. Not sure if that means the shoe really does not fit properly? I am struggling with this and have ordered a few more pairs in different sizes of the same shoes to see...what sucks is the secondary size for me 12.5 e of which stock is not always the greatest on. Even certain shoes like my Rush St and McTavish feel very diffent though they are on the same last...the Rush St seem to be getting an odd crease in the cap toe and the lacing gap is huge and the McTavish fit perfect with a much smaller lace gap.

It has to do with that dead space in the toe that 5 lasts have. SAs have advised me in the past that it was more important for the balls of your foot to coordinate with the location/fit where the shoe is widest in the front (not sure what this part of the shoe is referred to as).

Just scored some lightly used (I'm guessing worn no more than 5 times) Shell MacNeils off eBay for less than 2 bills. Deal or no deal?

The picture was from someone else. The lacing gap isnt a problem for me at all (only slight v shape). I can close the gap just a little more with 9.5E. It doesnt bother me that much but I just want to get my next pair (probably strand) for the right size.

I cant believe shoe sizing is so hard to get perfect it is frustrating to say the least...

EDIT: you know now that I look at it in closer detail. Right now No matter how much I bend my foot that area is not creasing at all. I think it may be caused by inflexible leather in the vamp area during break-in. Like the vamp wasnt bending enough to compensate the cap bent a little. So if I havent bent so hard on the shoe when I wore it early it might not have happened. I was trying to break the shoe in a little faster :(

Well, there's a pair of Leeds Shell seconds on the shoebank for right under 5 bills. Give them to me if you don't want them. :)

Lightly used shell MacNeils for less than $200 is a great deal, as far as I am concerned. This said, no one in a right mind should ever buy shell AEs at the shoebank for close to $500. First, you can periodically score them for $299 during the sales. Second, with a little luck, you can get shell Aldens at the Shoe Mart for $425 (they were $399 just a few months ago).

Yup, I wore mine a lot during this winter. I'd usually pair them with some dark tan/light brown casual soft wash chinos and a sweater over a button-down. Sometimes I'd ditch the sweater.

Oddly enough, while I rarely get any compliments on my wide array of AE shoes (most of which I consider flashier/fancier than the ECs), I've gotten at least half a dozen "wow I like your boots" comments this winter when wearing them.

AE could have done a better job at designing the Eagle County boots by putting a different sole. Many MTO designs shown in this forum are examples of that. I got mine with the Danite soles and felt that they are more versatile and can be worn in both casual and formal settings.

I think AE is finally getting with the program with respect to Dainite. More and more offerings seem to have that sole as stock. Case in point - I just ordered the cognac MacNeil 5 with the red Dainite. Will post pics when they arrive.
