There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I've only tried Last 5 - just so happens all the shoes I like are in that last.

Consider the available options too. Aside from the #1 (29), the #5 has the most options by a significant margin.

I was at the AE store today. Tried on the navy suede Players Shoe. It looks great. The #2 last has a nice shape to it, but it is a tight fitting shoe. I tried the 11D (which is much too big for me in the #5 last), and it was snug in the heel and tight in the toe box. Unfortunately, they did not have a larger shoe for me to try on.

I also laid hands on the Ridgeway limited edition. They had a waxy black, brown, and olive sample. The pictures on the website do not do them justice. The black shoe features a red welt and red contrast stitching. The brown shoe features a bright yellow/orange contrast stitch. These are not your grandfather's shoes. While nontraditional, they were pleasing to look at. I took a crappy bleached out cell phone photo which I will post when I find a WiFi connection.

In addition to the last, the lacing pattern/construction can have a large impact on fit for me. Bluchers in the #5 last work well but balmorals, not so much. I'm very impressed with the fit of my new Leeds (blucher #1 last). They fit as well as any shoe I own. I may have to look at some other #1 last models.

Anyone know how Allen Edmonds loafers fit?

I fit a 9D in the Strand pretty well. Would I also be a 9D in the Kenwood?

It apparently uses the "Handsewn 800 last"

Coincidentally I recently discovered the reverse was true for me. Not that there is anything wrong with the #1 last fit on me but the 5 feels like a very custom fit in comparison. However that is only based on 2 shoes on the 5 last. The Leeds was one of the first AE shoes I purchased and is a good fit on me, as are most on the #1. But when I got the Shelton (balmoral #1) I had a similar experience as you at first, not so much. After a couple of weeks it got better and several years later is normal but it had me worried at first. Could also be the stiff cobbler leather on the Shelton had to break in and mold to my foot. Currently the McAllister (balmoral #5) is the best fitting shoe I own which is why I am now exploring the shoes on the #5 last. As PhiPsi32 said, that last opens up a lot of options.

Taking a closer looks at my shell leeds, I noticed it's not a bubble, but part of the leather is matted down and has a weird texture. It's actually not that noticeable when I'm walking, but I'm worried it might be an issue over time as the rest of the shoe gets a patina and this part doesn't. Does anyone hear know what this could be and if it's a "serious" defect?

I have the black one on order. The red stitching on that shoe caught my eyes at the AE store. My feet love the #5 last.

    Some more AEs...

This was posted by bwp in the WAYWRN Shoe thread. If this is the Rutledge, then AE's website photography does not do it justice. What a great looking shoe!

asalerno I presume that is a scar, from when the animal was alive. I had a similar mark, in a much more prominent location, on a pair of black Cambridges I ultimately returned.

If it will bother you, attempt to exchange. If it won't bother you, enjoy your new shell leeds (with character!)

My bad. It's the Evanston. Cannot for the life of me understand why they discontinued this shoe. [IMG]

I am likewise waiting for the waxy black Ridgeway. Placed the order four weeks ago, but I canceled and re-ordered when I realized I had the sizing wrong. So 2-4 weeks from now, maybe.

I found that many shoes on the 0 last look bad in pictures but great on the foot. I still love my Manhattan in saddle tan leather.

After three trips to the AE store, I would say that most of the pictures in the web catalog are not very good. The shoes look much better in real life.

Isn't it amazing that they cannot figure out how to take good pictures? I always go to Amazon or Zappos if I want good pictures of the shoe and its color.
