http://www.ivy-style.com/brown-in-town-allen-edmonds-new-cappucino-cordovan-web-exclusive.html

It looks like Ivy Style is reporting that the Cordovan Webgems are actually Cappuccino, not brown. They report that directly from Allen Edmonds. If this is right, I am now even happier I ordered a pair of the Jeffersons.

Can any of you guys (cough* bucks fan *cough) find out if this is the truth?

There have been other rumors that it's dark brown being offered.

Some clarification from AE on this would lead to a lot more sales, for sure.

I think someone reported yesterday that they are in fact "brown" not "cappuccino" but I will go through my channels (basically the Jville outlet - but I sometimes get prioritized response) and see what I can find out.

Based on my conversation with Allison from AE, I really do not think the webgems are cappuccino. I spoke to her 3 weeks ago when I placed my order and she said there was only enough cappuccino left to make approx. 25 pairs of shoes. I find it hard to believe that 2 weeks or so after that they would be offering a webgem with probably only half of that material left. I believe it is brown. The shades vary quite a bit as we have seen.

I really want to hop on those webgems firsts, but on the other hand I'm hoping that a few seconds pairs come out of it.

That is a lovely color, indeed. Makes it hard not to jump on the webgems, but I have 2 MTOs in the works already.

All of you guys talking about scoring Shell Daltons for $299, made me want to wear mine today. I got mine for I think $329 a while back.

As for the controversy over the color of the new webgems. I do think the color is their normal brown shell, not cappuccino. I only posted the link from Ivy Style because it was wishful thinking on my part. The AE website does not have a separate shell brown patriot or strand, which they normally offer, only the webgem. So I would assume it is their normal brown.

Thank you for the heads up! I wonder if it extends to seconds as well?

The Strand is tempting on discount for being so new, but I'm a sucker for seconds.

The Fifth Avenue is a pretty large discount and the best deal to me.

Suede Strand insole report

It looks like the pictures are accurate in appearance:

With one caveat, it's not a true poron insole:

Looks like a half sock liner like Alden and other shoe makers use. I like this insole personally. Nice balance of heel comfort but with a leather insole...

Edit, not sure if it was mentioned that it comes with a dainite sole.

So is that a real/regular leather insole in there?

Sure felt like it. I own a pair of AEs with the poron, and I can tell you this was not it...

Fantastic! Thanks again for the investigation JS! That is just a sock liner then. AE has been experimenting with putting sock liners in some models (the Patriot has one too). It is nothing different than what you find in pretty much all other nice Goodyear-welted shoes. In fact, AE has been pretty much the only company that doesn't use them.

Remember, their primary purpose is to cover up the nails that are driven through the insole to attach the heel. However, AE doesn't drive nails through the insole like all the other Goodyear-welted shoe manufacturers do. Thus, the sock liner isn't "necessary." Some people enjoy the added cushion that it provides for the heel, and have considered it to be one of the negatives against AE for not using them over the years. Personally, I don't really care. I'm perfectly happy to buy a pair with them though. It's nothing more than a thin leather covered cushion that is adhered to the top of the insole. They don't affect the potential longevity of the shoe in a negative way (the way the full Poron insoles may), and can be easily pulled out and replaced as needed.
