Thank ya sir. Re: Alden sizing, sorry but unfortunately I do not. I will say that most of AE's 5-65 lasts fit me like a glove in 9D. These Graysons are 9D also and are super comfortable. They feel a bit longer and are DEFINITELY roomier than my shell patriots and Waldens in 9D. Definitely more comfortable, also. I have only tried Alden's Aberdeen once with a shell LHS in 9D and it did not fit me too well, good in the front but too loose in the heel. I love Alden's loafer offerings but unfortunately they just do not fit me right. I have a pretty low instep, FYI. Hope this helps a bit.

    Nothing special, guys.

    E-mail to Jville

Me: "Any Bayfield boots available in 10D or 10E?"

Response: "We can make a 10 d for $167 but it will take 8 weeks to get"

That's it. Now, any chance I'll get feedback on my question?

I think the reason no one is offering an opinion is because no one wants to tell you to cancel your original order because it seems impractical that they would specially make a discontinued $300+ boot for $167. I called the same outlet last week looking for a Bayfield in my size and was told that "they are discontinued and almost all gone". The only way I know how to get one "made" would be through MTO and it'd almost certainly be more than $167. If you find that not to be the case please do respond because I'd like in on that.

I would love to appreciate AE shoes, but apparently can't wear them. I bought a pair of Kenilworths and PAs in May, but had to return the Kenilworths because they had unsightly bowing at the ankles. The PAs didn't have the bowing, but didn't fit properly (10.5 EEE were too wide).

During the Nordstroms event, I bought a pair of PAs in 10.5E which had the obnoxious bowing, then exchanged them for a 10EEE, which had the bowing, then bought two 10.5Es from Amazon, both had the bowing, one not as bad as the original pair, one worse. I gave up on the PAs and then ordered a pair of Strands and McAllisters, both in 10.5E. The Strands fit perfectly and the McAllisters have the bowing.

I finally made it to an AE store, where the manager had me try on a bunch of sizes and widths in the McAllisters to no avail. He said I had fallen arches, which pulls my foot in, therefore creating the bowing on the outer edge of the shoe at the ankle. He gave me some inserts, which lessened the bowing, but didn't eliminate it and made the shoes fairly uncomfortable and squeak.

Sadly it appears that the Strands, which fit great, are apparently defective because they fit great on my apparently freakish feet.

I asked if there were any other lasts that would be good for my feet but he had no suggestions and felt that all the AE shoes would act like the 5 last shoes. Very disappointing.

You guys have any suggestions for other brands that I can shove my freak, fallen arched, hooves in?

The five last is weird. You tried a string of shoes that all fit the same. Check out some shoes made on the 1 last or other options.

actually these wouldn't be MTO. I talked with riverhead about this for Bayfields earlier this year. They have lots of uppers in storage including Bayfields that haven't been put on soles. Cheap to store them like this. Apparently there are many excess discontinued shoes stored like this. So it costs them very little relatively to on a case by case basis throw them onto a last and sole them. But they aren't making a whole new upper. This is also the reason why sometimes you'll see clearance shoes on the website listed as ready in 3-5 weeks.

I've got odd feet. Left is an 11 E and right is 9.5 EEE, both with very narrow ankles and low arches, like duck feet. I've found the 333 last gives the best fit for this foot type. Maybe worth a try?

Thank you. My question, though was just about the relative merits of the two boots with trousers/sport coats and about their use in some light snow.

That makes a lot of sense - thanks for the great explanation!

I agree. A retailer once told me that as well. AE stores shoes as uppers only. Discontinued styles or not.

Not to discount what you are saying, but have you been professionally fitted? That seems like a very large difference between your two fit

Yes, I was fitted recently at the AE store in Rockefeller plaza in NYC. The SA suggested I use the AE MTO program (which I intend to do soon) to get a pair that fits each foot more closely.

Meanwhile, I find that I can wear many AE shoes in 11 3E, but the 3 last in 10.5 3E provides the best fit I have come across for RTW shoes of any brand.

The difference in size has to do with bunions. I had one corrected (well, over-corrected, which increased the length of my big toe) on the left foot, but not on the right (adding to that foots increased width).

Someday I'm sure ill have the right foot corrected, but not any time soon, as the pain is still minimal, and I'm far too busy with work and family for the recoup time...

My feet are fairly flat and on the wider side and I've found the 5 last to be problematic for one foot but fits the other fine so I found a happy medium size in the middle. I've found the 1 last to be a bit more forgiving and fits me better. I've not tried other lasts yet but looks like someone suggested the 3. Maybe try the 7 as well which I've heard can be forgiving but don't have first-hand experience.

I'll email them and see what they say. Thanks for the info. Like I said, I had them on the phone last week and they didn't offer this up.

I don't even know what to think about this boot.
