I am considering purchasing a pair of Daltons for the winter, likely walnut, maybe bourbon. I wear a suit every day. I am wondering how well they would go with a suit. Though I'd just like to have a pair, I would also like to get some regular wear out of them.

    Any thoughts?

I have a pair of 5th Streets in black for about a year. I'm very happy with them. They look a good deal like a Strand until you flash a little ankle. Quite comfortable after a brief break-in, and built like a tank. I wear 'em with jeans and suits. Would look great tooling around on a Harley too.

Those were my first AEs. I think it ended up being a great choice. I love boots and think they are more versatile than shoes. They go well with my navy and grey suits and in fact the color, indoors, end up looking like burgundy/merlot (even a salesman at a store I was in that sells AE mistook it for merlot). Fit wise I have found that they are somewhat tighter than the 5-last shoes.

I wish they would make a walnut version!

Thanks! I'm debating between the brown fifth street and the brown strand. I'm definitely going to buy one of the two in the next few months. Thanks a bunch for sharing your experience.

I've got a pair of walnut Daltons and personally, I think they are too casual to be worn with a suit. That's just my opinion, though.

Very well done, congrats! You will not get any disagreement from me over your selection or reasoning for doing so.
Same here. And my request was for the MacNeil to be made on the 5 last......

    thank you for the input!

... and yes I realize I should have done a multi-quote. Unfortunately I didn't notice there were multiple comments until it was too late[IMG]

I am still amazed at how quickly you fellas rush to answer any questions.

    HHHHH I HAVE BEEN OUTED!

My girl just looked over my shoulder at my iPad and saw that I was on here. Her exact quote was "OH MY GOD you're on a shoe forum and you're religiously reading those posts aren't you?"

Then she said "...you'd don't actually post pics of your shoes on there do you? DO YOU?"

    Ahhhh if she only knew!

It gets better. My wife doesn't even raise her eyebrows when she sees me snap a pic of my shoes.

I would agree. I just recently got some Walnut daltons as well, and while I love them (instantly became my favorite foot covering), they wouldn't work well with anything less than a casual (or perhaps country) suit. If you were going for less of a wow factor, but still wanted a classy, versatile boot, i'd recommend the brown. Dark and versatile.
