Well, if you want to be a good person then call them and inform them of what happened. Up to you though.

No of course, but I was very curious as this situation seems so out of the norm. I wanted to see if anyone else had ever ran into this...

Yes, something similar happened to me with some Aberdeens I ordered off the website when they went on clearance. My size was listed as out of stock (with a ~5 week delivery estimate), and I placed my order near the end of November.

I ended up receiving two identical pairs on the same day, shortly before Christmas; one came by FedEx Ground and the other by FedEx 2-day delivery. One pair came from the factory in Port Washington, and the other from a separate (retail) location.

When I called up customer service to figure out what had happened, the CSR guessed that it was because of the holiday rush.

Presumably, a choice had been made to fulfill items that were back-ordered at the factory using stock on-hand at retail locations, wherever possible, to try to ensure folks got their shoes before the holidays. Both shipments must have been prepared and sent independently, maybe even at the same time, and nobody caught it until I called.

The CSR provided me a pre-paid shipping label to return the duplicate pair, and offered to send me a complimentary pair of shoe trees out of gratitude.

Presumably, you ended up with two pairs due to a similar error. It's even possible that one pair was sent from the main Shoe Bank, and the second from a different outlet store.

I felt like the only ethical choice was to return the extra pair that I received, complimentary shoe trees or not. Of course, I did try on both pairs first, and kept the pair that fit slightly better...

I have the same intentions as yourself. Seeing as I already own the Brown/Brown mesh Strawfuts, having 2 black pairs now will be a good way to gauge the fit of them. I will try on the two pairs, keep the shoe bags that the recent ones came with [IMG] and call AE for a return label. I wonder if the new pair are of first quality...I shall have to see. Shoe Trees would be a great gift in return, but I wont expect it or count on it [IMG]

That is not right. Even if those shoes fit you, the bowing problem would not disappear simply from putting trees in for a few days. But, back to the main point, which is that those shoes plain and simply do not fit you. I suspect you need to size down 0.5 to 1 full size, but it's hard to tell because they appear to be too big in length, width and volume. Do you have the ability to get sized by an AE SA before returning to try a different size?

Agree with new shoes and the others, bowing won't disappear because the shoes are at least too large around the heel and instep.

My new AE's bow at the ankles as well. I was sized at a 10D.. though I suspect I may need to size down to a 9.5 that's wider. It's hard to say.

Your pictures indicate that the shoes are too long. Perhaps you're one of the many who compensate for their need for more width by getting a longer shoe? I know I'm one of them.

I've traditionally worn 11.5D in 5-last shoes for quite a number of years. Recently, that has not been very successful, especially after I lost a good amount of weight. I went to an AE store and they thought that I probably need a size 10 EE in in my regular 5-last dress shoes. 10E's were too tight, 10EEE were too wide, but the length was fine. I elected not to order the 10 EE because I could not get used to the look of the McAllisters in a wider proportions..my eyes could just not accept it! I couldn't quite bear to do that, so I gave an 11D a try. So far the merlot McAllisters are somewhat tight, but I can deal with it. I have another pair of merlot Park Ave's coming in from the Nordstrom anniversary sale. Hopefully they feel alright, or I may start the the 10 EE experiment.

PS - My Centerfielders & Patriots in 10EEE fit fine

For shoemart, you can also look at the inside leather of the shoe. Around the tongue. It is sometimes stamped with an "R".

Tucker - I'd get sized again. If there isn't an AE near you then you can measure yourself with the Brannock device. Be sure to take the slope of your instep into account. Those shoes look too big on you for certain, even if they do feel good. I'm sized at an 11.5 D/E on the Brannock with a relatively high instep. On all of my AE's I wear a size 11E. Believe it or not, even that size feels slightly (and I mean slightly) large for unlined shoes like my McTavishes. As well, I do notice a difference between an 11.5D and 11E although some argue that they are essentially the same. Good luck!

The Centerfielders feel really comfortable to me but by mid-day to end of day my back of the heels feel rubbed raw. Apparently this is somewhat common with boat shoes during the brak-in period.

Now I wear band aids on my heels whenever I wear the centerfielders as a preventative measure.

Just wondering if any forum members have any advice on breaking in the centerfielders? How long does it take to break in boat shoes?

I won't be much help since my boat shoes are rancourt and co but I had no real break in time.

I love the contrast between the vamp and the toebox, but that welt is a bit too much for me. It overwhelms the rest of the shoe for me.
