I just ordered a pair from the shoe bank. They were $199. I'll report back when they come in. Great phone service as others on here have attested to!

Call the MANAGER at the local Nordstrom Shoe department. Explain you were fitted improperly in December and that the shoes need to be replaced with the proper fit. The manager can even order in another fit, but you need to see the manager in person so that he can determine exactly what your fit is. They will also do a full refund - but with the same going on right now, you might be able to exchange the value of your receipt for another pair.

    Thanks for the question,

    David

Before you go with the plan, I suggest you revisit the original eBay sale listing and look at the 'RETURN' policy. Most eBay Sellers with good ratings will permit you to return the shoes for a full refund as long as you pay the shipping. But read the their return policy carefully, and communicate your desire to return the shoes in writing by using the eBay email system to contact the seller. If the seller asks why, simply tell him the truth that you are not satisfied with the purchase and you have decided to buy another pair of shoes from a different retailer. No need to mention Nordstroms.

With your approved return, you can then contact the Nordstrom MANAGER for a professional fit and sizing.

    David

PS: Regarding what some other members read in your plan, I don't see any unethical issues about buying another pair from Nordstroms and returning the eBay pair of shoes to the eBay seller for a refund. But some folks think you might have meant buying a pair from Nordstroms and then returning the eBay pair to Nordstroms (which would be morally unethical). Nevertheless, some folks try to do that . . . and they get caught because seconds are marked in the shoes and cannot be returned as "firsts".

So in the end, my read of what you wrote is right on and would be what I would do - all above board and the ability to sleep at night!

That is how I took it as well. Give the guy the benefit of the doubt before we condemn him. It would be rather brash to say that you were going to intentionally defraud a company, even if anonymously on an internet forum.

Which local Nordstrom store gave you the card for the free professional shoe shine? The Nordstrom web site doesn't show any Nordstrom stores in Montana.

I in no way need new shoes, but I am really tempted to order the walnut Strands from Nordstrom for $229. I don;t need them, but I need to order them. Makes sense, right?

I went this morning and had no problem getting an exchange done. However, this may not be over yet. First of all, I friend it difficult to say that Nordstrom provides a professional fit considering that they only offer D widths. Now that I know more about my feet after visiting an AE store, it is apparent to me that all they do at Nordstrom is try to force you into the next larger size to compensate for the need for width. I exchanged the 11D's for 10.5D. I fit into a 10D, but it is too narrow. I probably need a 10 or 10.5 in E. the 10.5D are also somewhat narrow but not enough so that I couldn't deal with it; but it is not ideal. I was dissuaded by the store rep from ordering a wider size. In fact apart from going in the back to get the boxes of shoes, the rep had no interest in helping me try on the shoes, and even declined to size me on the brannock after I requested it because of my frustration with the non-ideal fit. It was 10am, and my impression was that he wanted to finish prepping the store for paying (commission generating) customers.

The second problem, is that the perfing on the shoes is flawed. There's some white showing along the wingtips. I've seen this before on seconds from Shoebank. I asked if he had another pair in this size and he stated that he did not. I wasn't going to be too picky about this because I was still going to get a better fitting shoe.

There is another problem as well. The same shoe that has the white spots/streaks near the edge of the perfing has another problem. When I brought the shoes home and straight bar laced them I noticed that the eyelets on either side of the shoe are misaligned.

Looking back on the experience this morning, I'm dissatisfied: especially on the service end. Honestly, I enjoy shopping at Nordstrom, however I do not believe they can provide an professional fit of AE shoes so long as they do not carry widths. They're "fit" is a compromise of their stocking decisions and their service level was unsatisfactory.

These will likely go back now for an exchange if something else or a credit/refund of some sort.

Nordstroms customer service sure leaves a lot to be desired. I went yesterday to get a new pair of Strands and the people helping me were completely uneducated about Allen Edmonds in general. I'm almost convinced that they didn't even know it was an American brand. I also picked up a matching Manistee belt to go with my new Strands and the cashier next to the one ringing me up said "who is buying the cheap ass belt" right in front of me. Now that is customer service! Over all my experience with Nordstroms has not been great to say the least but the sale is good enough to deal with it. I doubt I will be rushing back to Nordstroms in the near future.

On a happier note, THANK YOU Styleforum members for introducing me to Allen Edmonds a few months back!! and in the last 3 months I've done this to my shoe collection!

I went from having ZERO real shoes (all I wore before were Converse...yeah I know) to this. Not bad huh?! The goal? 12 pairs!! I think I can reach my goal before the end of the year...funds permitting. Ebay has been really good to me :)

I know you were looking to try the shoes on but if you are fairly certain you need an E width you can exchange your shoes and have them send the size they don't carry to your home. That's what I did.
