I think they are worth it @ 64$. I have one belt in bourbon, full retail. It's held up well, but they use calfskin and not corrected grain, so the leather will show fine wrinkles like shoes. Be prepared for this as many complain about it, but I've just learned to accept it and wear.

    Thanks for the responses, all.

I don't think MTO is the way to go for me at this point because I really don't think I know if I want anything specialized enough to go MTO. It's really a question of, for the budget, go for Daltons + Strands or step up to one pair of shell.

    Dalton's + strands.
Your current shoe rotation doesn't warrant the price of 600$ for 1 shoe. Of course this is my prerogative, but at this point, I'd recommend acquiring a total of 4 versatile shoes.

Once u are comfortable with your staple workhorse shoes, branch off and start ordering fillers.

Can't believe it. Placed an order by fone yesterday to the Shoebank for some black BB Fifth Avenues, and they're on the truck for delivery today. Gotta love living in Chicago!

Enjoy those BB 5th Aves! I love the Poron insole

I have feeling you'll be putting a nice shine on them tonight.

I agree that Alden's #8 is special, but the QC for Alden shows does not seem as good and I don't think the customer service with them is as good as AE, i.e., Alden may not remake your shoe if there is a manufacturer's defect if it is within their QC standards, which from what I have seen is not as stringent as AE.

His opinion on the new burgundy cordovan is his own and some people do like the new AE burgundy cordovan.

Quote:I don't think there is a bad choice to be made between shell AE and Alden. I do have a preference for Alden color 8, but like the AE burgundy well enough. Shell is quite seductive - that's the path I would recommend given your budget.

I have a question Gentlemen. If I were to place my AE's in a storage for a year and half, will they be dried out? Is it better to sell and buy them when I need? Thanks much.

Don't get me wrong I love Alden shoes but their qc & cs are lacking in comparison to AE
