Quote:I have two pairs of Ashtons and a pair of Scottsdales. I found the Benton/Ashton from the 8-678 last to fit me slightly better than the 1511G last shoes when using my normal custom orthotic. When I tried on the Ashton and the Winterpark in the store in 13d with my custom orthotic in place and the insole removed, the Ashton fit better. The Winterpark pinched my toes and seemed to have a more narrow fit over all. The SA assured me that the Scottsdale being a loafer would have a wider toe box so I ordered a pair. I am still breaking in the Scottsdale at home but I am using my slimmer custom sport orthotic for it. Prior to picking up AE shoes this year I was wearing 13e new balance walking shoes as they fit my custom orthotic the best. Are you interested in the orthotic line in hopes that they accomodate a wider foot better, or are you also using custom/other insoles?

You and I are on the same page. But do you think the burnishing on the Rutledge adds or takes away from its beauty?

From looking at user pics, I think it has a really nice effect.

I'd say get the Rutledge. I think the Harrison, being a more formal design, works better in black or dark brown. I think the burnishing on the Rutledge looks good, but the important thing is whether you think it looks good. I'd be slightly concerned about replicating it down the road after multiple polishing though.

By the way, are you looking at firsts or seconds?

I think it adds to it's beauty, but takes a way a bit from it's formality. That's just an opinion that many may disagree with, but under the principle that more formal shoes should attract less attention and blend in more, I think it holds true with these.

Are these JAB branded seconds coming from the AE factory store/outlet/shoe bank?

Their inventory list doesn't list any in my size... I'm hoping you have another source...

Totally unrelated, but I just found out carmina makes a shell wholecut. That must be the pinnacle of elegance! No creases, just keeps its clean shape forever!

Be careful, I've wandered into the wrong exam room because of this. Better to admire them while stationary. Still, it's not as bad as your staff catching you taking a picture of your shoes. Now that's awkward.

I just received an email invoice for my Walnut shell Daltons. I would assume that means they are shipping...

    jrarnold,

    thanks for the insightful reply.

I actually dont use orthotics - just have a very wide foot - especally across the toebox.

The Alden Modified Last in EEE fits me pretty well but am looking for additional options. I would also prefer to spend less than $500 per pair of shoes sometimes...

I will go to a local AE store and try toe Ashton in EEE

They'll still have rolls....which sometimes can be worse than creases.

On the matter of lumps on/in the insole, they don't always go away. Curiously I have had this problem only with 5 lasted shoes. AE has always been good about taking them back.
