You said it, dress pants with running shoes is the silliest thing I have ever seen. Looks horrendous!

I think more people look at your shoes than you think.

But less people can recognize and appreciate good shoes than you imply ...

    Good evening gentlemen,
My search for a decent wingtip continues...
What are your thoughts on the Players?
I need some walnut casuals in my collection and was looking at those.

Players are great, and check out the MacNeil and McAllister as well. J

    Thank you!
That surely helps me in my decision.
I have a few pieces from different brands and I am trying to be a "sniper" shopper to fill in the blanks I still have in my collection.
I honestly admit that I picked C&J and Cheaney to cover the "traditional brogue" sector.
But for some reason I keep coming back to Allen Edmonds.
I also have to agree with the voices raised in this group mentioning that AE is missing a classic brogue or wingtip blucher in its offering. It is definitely a product line hole.
I see tons of loafers (penny, tassel, kilt, etc), but not one classic brogue.
Someone in the design department definitely hates laces!
    Have a wonderful night everybody,
    Max

Agreed. There's a difference between mistakenly thinking no one notices your shoe choice and simply not caring what people think. I wear running shoes during my morning train ride and 1 mile walk to the office and people definitely notice - especially if I'm wearing a suit that day. I just don't care how silly it looks when I'm in speedwalking mode. [IMG]

I don't know how casual you are wanting, but also consider the McTavish.

+1. Very few will say anything, but a lot will indeed notice. I'm in sales so I'd rather not leave first impressions to chance....it pays to make an effort. J. (PS I'm not of course referring to during one's commute, but rather during the performing of our jobs.)

Quote: I agree. I was reading an article a few years back written by the top caucasian trend setter/fashion guru in Tokyo at the time (I forget is name right now) but his front page article was solely about the fact that shoes are what make an outfit. They are the first impression and therefore always wear nice shoes.

Good post by Cold Iron as usual.

As a general rule, you will be hard pressed to find any shell color by any maker that matches the gloss, lustre and shine of Alden's color 8.

Did some polishing recently on a few pair of my walnut AE's, so I thought I'd get the family together for a few pictures:

    Walnut Calf Daltons, Walnut Brooks Brothers Fifth Avenues (mid-conditioner absorption), Tan McTavishes, Vintage Chestnut? Standish Monkstrap (1 Last);
Walnut Grain Calf Park Avenues, Walnut Jeffersons, Walnut Calf Strands.

Taken in some waffling afternoon sunlight through my front door.

Oh yeah, I forgot to include my Zero Last Walnut Augustas, which I'm trying to sell, because as you can see, I have a few pair of walnut AE's [IMG]:
