I also wonder if they have a life at all - outside of this site.

My own venture, with some half-days invested into post comments - is more akin to looking for recommendations, resources, and contacts that I can call on the phone. (I have entered into some baits, posted what I know or have experimented with, but that process is becoming less as I pick and choose a course of action). I have also found some MFP's who have rarely never posted any pictures of their shoes, clothing, or accessories - after reaching thousands upon thousands of posts. I have no desire to mirror such a time waster when I can choose a good film, book, or walk by the lake.

In my opinion, of course . . .

I looked through the shoe section of my local Nordstrom Rack to see if there are anything interesting and saw a pair of tan Banchorys in my size that were marked as "worn & refinished" for $120. As best as I can tell, they were at most tried-on at some point (the soles look brand new) and were not seconds (unlike some other AE's there that had the seconds marking on the sole), so I brought them home. I may still end up returning them, but leaning toward keeping them for now.

I realize these are probably not popular around here, but I'm a fan of long wings, and could actually use a light tan pair of shoes to go with a seldom used natural leather belt I have (you know you have an issue when you're buying shoes to go with belts...).

Then I began to study AE products, polishes of various brands, and to invest the time to understand the "why". This forum, with all of it's debates and baits, has been a blessing for me. A good argument, with little concern as to which side you choose, will most often bring out more truth and choices for all who participate.

Enjoy your journey, pay little attention to the forum fly whose agenda is posting one-liners to ruin your dream, and don't worry about past experiences of wearing lower end products. Become a better educated person in your own personal style - and enjoy the self confidence of wearing your choices.

    My very best to you,

I'm similar to you at the outset of your venture into Allen Edmonds except mine was because of my mother telling me to buy better shoes and according the poll at ranker.com Allen Edmonds in the top two shoe makers in this country of ours.

Do you all think that there is such thing as a compulsive shoe buyer? I have been just that for a while now.

I don't see why you couldn't wear them with both. I have a black pair that I wear with suits. I ordered a brown pair at the same time, but sent them back because they squeaked. They looked great and I will probably end up with a pair. I wasn't sure I would like the fit of the boot but it broke in nicely after three or four wearings.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Good to have some approvals for those shoes.
Thanks for the feedback. I have no idea exactly how "worn" they were, but I looked at the insole and there is no "footprint" on it. I find that most of my shoes develop some sort of visible "footprint" on the insole within one or two wears. The uppers didn't really show any wear, but then again with this type of soft unlined leather, it's already kind of distressed so it's hard to tell. So I was fairly confident that they weren't really "used" but rather more like "lightly worn". Hopefully I'm right about that.

How did you arrive at 3E width for the Park Avenues? I take a 8.5D in the Barrie last and either 8.5D or 9D in AE 5-lasted shoes depending on the leather (the rough leathers tend to make up larger, so I go with 8.5D with those). My guess is that the 3E width will be too wide for you if are indeed a D width on the Barrie last.

I don't know about others who frequent this and other shoe related threads on Style Forum, but I've certainly been a compulsive shoe buyer. I really don't want to count, but since the beginning of 2013, I've probably bought close to double digit pairs of shoes (AE and others)...and I started the year with well over a dozen pairs.:p

I also have a problem. Is there a support group? One outside of SF, that is.
