Let me first warn that i'm a little OCD.

I keep all of my shoes in trees when not being worn. Then they are placed in shoe bags and then I have matching 15qt Rubbermaid containers that I keep all of my shoes in. On the outside of each container I have a picture of the shoe and a label telling me what's inside. All the containers stack very nicely in my closet. If my shoes get wet or I sweat profusely that day i'll leave my shoes out for the night and let them dry before they go in the containers.

My wife was recently a trip and I assembled the same setup for all of her shoes as well.

What can I say, it's the Marine Corps coming out in me.

All mine are in bags and have shoe trees inserted, on a cedar shoe rack in my closet. By the way, you can order bags from the outlets, if you don't receive them with your shoes, such as if you get seconds.

My seasonal shoes get put in boxes in a spare closet when not in season, inside their bags and with shoe trees inserted.

I have the AE Bayfield in CXL and can post some pics. But for a better perspective, I would look up SF member Cold Iron's photos of the same boot. He has a beautiful collection of shoes and boots and some really nice photos. He uses his Bayfields as boots (off carpet and everything!) and they clean up great as you will be able to see in his before and after photos. It was these pics that convinced me to get a pair, and I will add that the CXL has broken in well for me.

Thanks for your opinion, that's what I have been thinking too. It just doesn't match the profile of the shoe, and I keep thinking the leather is sitting on two planks. These are 12D, but I think that size sole would work for a 12eee. I'll send the same pics to my AE sales associate and see what he recommends.

Just went to AE Retail store today to get some shoe polish. The sales lady told me that the horsehair brush and daubers will increase in price starting tomorrow. So if you need any brushes better order them before midnight!

I just got the Strand in Bourbon. I am in banking and I wore it with mid grey last week and it looked great. I think this could work as your brown dress shoe unless you are in an extremely conservative environment. I think these will look great with most greys, navy, olives, etc. Pretty much anything but black and very light khaki.

To be honest, in my situation, most people don't even notice the shoes and most wear square toed bicycle stitched cemented shoes.

Just bought a pair of Allen Edmonds, my first nice dress shoe. I understand the point of shoe trees but am lost as to why I should store them in bags. Can someone explain?

I would exchange because they are firsts. It's not a defect, but is an aesthetic detail that bothers you. FWIW, my Park Avenues have the same pronounced welt and it is one of the reasons they sit on a shelf.

I agree that a bourbon strand is a nice shoe, but bourbon is not dark brown. If you wear it with navy or darker gray suits, it will stand out and look showy. I would start with a shoe that is labelled as dark brown or brown.

I got a pair of shoe bags with my last order from Allen Emonds however I might go buy some more for my Johnson and Murphy Cardells and perhaps for the Rockport Evanders. I looked at the web site for some local stores, Target and K-Mart and of the bunch only Target had shoe bags but did not have them in stock, Amazon had shoe bags however they wanted more for shipping then the actual product, makes it sort of silly to buy the product unless you have Prime, which I don't seeing as how I have never ordered anything but electronic things from Amazon.

I recently bought my first AEs during the sale last month and I was really excited because I've been looking at them for a while. I bought black Park Avenues and walnut Mcallisters. I wore the Park Avenues a couple times and noticed some significant bowing in the opening (top line bulge). I called AE nd, true to form, their customer service was top notch. They told me to send them back so they could examine them, and upon looking at them they agreed there was a defect and sent me a new pair. Can't ask for better service, especially since those shoes had been worn outside three times.

The Mcallisters had to be shipped and I just got them a couple days ago. I sat down to give an initial polish and noticed that the broguing is incredibly sloppy. It overlaps in multiple places, and the overlap isn't even symmetrical between the two shoes. Some of the broguing is also peeling up. Obviously I will send them back, it's just discouraging since I was so excited and there were defects in both pairs. But they're beautiful shoes and once I get good ones I know I'll be happy.

I don't have any "in the wild" photos of the snuff Neumok. I will see about fixing that.

Is it just me, or are those Kenilworth's on a double leather sole? It seems like the sole is thicker than other Kenilworths I've seen, and it looks good.
