    Cold Iron,
Thanks for the tip on the Bayfield! I went up .5 to account for the poron insole but I did not realize I could drop it. I will tomorrow :)

I agree having the shell samples is great. Many if the cappuccino pics I have seen are much lighter than the sample I have. In fact, I am am wanting to see the dark brown sample because of how dark this sample is

Hi all--was hoping to get your thoughts on purchasing a pair of black Strands. I wear a suit everyday in a very conservative enviornment and already have the 5th ave in the dark brown and black park aves. Since I'm not interested in Walnut, does the Strand in black make sense? Or is the more formal black color at odds with all the brogueing?

    Thanks!

I don't think that I'd want a full-brogue in black. It just doesn't stand out enough IMO, but if you want to spiff things up a bit in a conservative environment, that may be the way to go.

There probably is a good chance I am a smug douchebag, but hopefully not because I own and wear my Tevas. They do have their place, as I couldn't imagine wearing nice leather sandals in all the situations where I would choose to wear Tevas. Now, I'm not in favor of going in the reverse direction and wearing Tevas in situation where nicer footwear is more appropriate. You do see that a lot around here in Colorado.

I would suggest something in burgundy since you have black and brown. Perhaps the burgundy Park Ave or burgundy McAllister. AE has the burgundy Hancock from the Independence Collection on clearance right now - might check to see if they have your size.

This. I bought a pair of black Strands before I knew what I was doing and eventually gave them away for the reason you describe. It's likely that no one else is going to notice the incongruity, but you'll know, and there are better options.

I always hated those things- even in college when they were all the rage. Keens were the "in shoe" in Seattle- that was 3 years ago so it might be different now. But Seattle people have a smugness to them that gets tiresome. Maybe I should have saved the douchebag for a more grievous offense-
    Like Crocks. Uugh.

Quote: It would be nice to have some clarity on this subject. I am wondering this myself in regards to the Wolverine collaborations. I've put some fair wear into the 744 LTDs and its going to be sooner rather than later that I will need to resole them. Part of the side of one heel is in the beginning stages of separating, Would love to install JR Double Soles into them.

This has been talked about already but with so many pages in this thread I apologize for not being able to find it and asking again. I'm 7.5 E on the 5 last McCallister in calf. What would I be in the McTavish? I understand it's the same last but with a different leather I think some were commenting that the fit was different. Thanks!

Generally I agree. Leather sandals are nice, but not those ridiculous things that look like cages for your feet. I mean basically an upgraded flip flop.

I suggested the Sanibel and Preston because they seem, to me, more casual and plain than a penny loafer. Driving mocs are ok too, but I just can't stand the rubber wrapping up around the sides and back.

I have been struggling with this for some time. Last year I tried the Alden LHS a few times before I decided I didn't like it. Maybe 20 years from now. I had a pair of Cole Hahns that were ok until I decided that the toe was too square. The Sanibel is essentially like the Cole Hahns except with a rounded toe. The Preston does not have the grain leather, but does have contrast stitching to help with the casualness. I also ended up with a pair of Sanibels in stone suede on closeout. Definitely a super casual shoe. I'll see if I can figure out how to wear them.

Just email the recrafting service and ask them. http://www.allenedmonds.com/wcsstore/AllenEdmonds/upload/PDF/recrafting/Recrafting_FAQ.pdf

I have done that, and I can confirm YES to BB, NO to RL. But AE will have the latest info, and they are good about answering these questions.

I'd like to order some Merlot Park Avenues and perhaps McAllisters as well. I've always been an 11.5D in Park Ave's / Strand / McAllisters, but lately I've noticed a bit extra room in all of my shoes after losing 60lbs+. Not sure if I want to experiment with a 1/2 size down or try a C width instead of a D.

Does anyone know AE's sizing deltas for A) 1/2 size changes and also B) width changes?
