And uh, getting your shoe size measured is a free service right? I can just go in, get measured, and leave without feeling guilty?

I get fanatical about stuff. Just trying to get all my colors covered. Need some walnuts in my life. Considering Clifton's, Parkway's, and Franciscans in walnut.

Can anyone help me decide? I am suck between the dark brown Brooks Strand (is this still on the 5 last?):

or the dark brown RL sanderson (on the 2 last?):

this will be for office/slacks and for going out wear. I know technically the strand is a balmoral and more formal, but with all the brogueing going on I feel like they can both be dressed down well.

I would say that the real question is what other shoes do you have in the closet? You've selected a brown balmoral shortwing (BB) and a brown derby longwing shoe (RL). The difference in "formality" between the two is negligible especially in the USA. That is to say StyleForum members are more likely to distinguish between the two styles than the general population. Either model is a "staple" shoe that will serve for a variety of occasions. If money is not an issue, then go with whichever fits best (or whichever suits your fancy). If money is a consideration, go with the less expensive pair. You really can't go wrong with either pair.

If you don't have Twitter and would like to give your recommendations, they also asked this question on their Facebook page:

Does anyone have pictures of the Transparent Brown? How is that different from the Natural Edge on a brown shoe, or is it like a tint? Thank you.

I feel that the cap toe is a typical British design (although Allen Edmonds does a pretty good job with the Park Avenue).
My vote goes to the long wingtip, I see the LWT being more of a "American All-Star".
    Thoughts anyone?
    What do you think?

Have you considered the walnut Jefferson? The outlet stores have seconds on sale for $249, so if you are open to seconds and they have your size this would be a nice deal. I have a pair on the way. From your list I think the Clifton is a great looking shoe and really versatile. Looks great in walnut too.

I trust you guys and I love this forum.

I ran into some Gucci Horsebit loafers @ Nordstrom Rack last night.

They were $95 and normally $595.

What do you think? Should I pull the trigger?

This is what they look like --> http://www.gucci.com/us/styles/269653BLM001000#

FYI: I have the following shoes already:
    AE Park Ave's in Black
    AE Finch in Brown/Blue
    AE Elgin in Tan
AE Townley in Brown Shell Corodvan
    AE Montecito in Saddle Tan
    RL Sanderson in Brown
    RL Ansewn Beefrolls in Black
    +
Assorted Quoddy & Rancourt boat shoes & camp mocs

As you can see my stuff tends to be on the more traditional time

I know this isn't an AE question, but I respect the opinions on here!

    Thanks in advance fellas.

My vote is for the RL sanderson. I think they are the equivalent of the AE independence line, they use finer leather, etc.

SF group think would be in serious conflict on this one. On the one hand, the bargain-hunting obsessed would be all about kopping these for $95, while the good taste purists would say pass because they are black horsebit loafers and that only formal shoes should be black.

My advice is to think about what you will wear them with, how often you will wear them, judge how well they fit and then determine if they are worth $95 to you.

disagree. I find the 8 longer and narrower than the 5.
