Sorry as this has probably been posted before, but a search doesn't lead me to anything?

-What are people's experience with AE Golf collection? Good value?
-How is the 1-511G last compared to the regular 1? And the 5?
-I gather there are some golf seconds on sale at the moment - are there any other predictable sales on golf models throughout the year?

    Cheers

They appear to be basic stackable wood shoe racks, i get mine from Target for $10-15 each.

They were listed at that on the AE seconds list I requested from the Port Washington Shoe Bank. When I asked them about it, they seemed surprised they were listed so cheap, but they honored it even though it may have been wrong.

You are right, I probably need to revisit my insurance coverage for my shoes/clothes... Replacement cost would be very expensive if they were lost somehow. Second, my car is kept in the same condition. I drive a 2007 Chrysler 300, and it looks brand new. So yes... :)

I have found that the Independence line looks amazing with just Renovateur. Especially the walnut leather. I do not use Saphir Polish or Wax. I use Lincoln brand polish. Neutral for my walnuts and browns and black for black of course. For the non Independence leathers, I apply a fine coat of Lincoln wax on the entire shoe, then use dabs of hot water and work little circles to get a very high shine. Same method on all of my shoes. Then lightly brush them, and hit them with a buff cloth. They always have an amazing shine. I get compliments on them all the time. Of course, I condition them on occasion, and I use Venetian creme on them occasionally.

As for the cabinet, I had a Americana style sign made by a local artist, and when I picked it up I saw in his woodshop a beautiful cabinet that he made. It stood about 6 feet tall and 3 1/2 feet wide. It was made out of Oak and had nice doors on it, and had 1 drawer at the bottom. I asked about making a cabinet a bit larger with doors with glass to see in, and he said he could do one for about $700 - $800. I would love to have a cabinet that closes up and keeps dust off of my shoes, but still leaves them viewable. Also, the drawer at the bottom would be nice to keep all my shines and conditioners, etc... I have yet to work out the schematics, but will be soon.

I think he was referring to the cabinet I am going to have made. But yes, you are right, those are stackable racks I purchased from Home Depot for $15 each. There are 4 racks in my picture.

Beautiful Daltons and collection! Also, a bit of serendipity that they were delivered while you just happened to be home for the day.

Thanks. As you know, these are on the 1-511 last. It is roomy in the forepart of the foot. I, generally, take 9.5Ds in all AEs and this is the size for this one. I did try on the 9d and it was too tight. I probably should have ordered the 9E just to try it out. However, I wanted to walk out with some shoes that day. [IMG]

In terms of the 5 last, I own the Hastings and that fits fine for 9.5d and the Strand. The hastings fits nice and snug (and remember that is a whole cut like shoe so it may expand better). The strand is also a 9.5d but there is slight bowing, but not enough to bother me. The strand in 9d fit me too tight esp. in the forepart. Again, i feel i should have at least tried on the 9E in the 5 last. I guess I'm saying that both these lasts are kinda similar so you should try the 7.5E first.

Just got some new Park Avenues (black, seconds from the J'ville store, no defect that I can see). Not the most exciting of purchases, but a true staple that I did not have. Anyway, aside from wearing them at home for a bit to break in the soles, what treatment is recommended before wearing them out?

As I mentioned a few posts ago, I'm looking to pick up a pair of Sheltons. I've bought two other pair of AE in the past month so I need to try and save a little money on this one. I'm disappointed because I think they were a webgem not too long ago but that's gone, so...

The outlet has one in my size and based on the list they sent they are going for $228. I believe that's 15% off the normal $269 price. Does that sound about right for these shoes? I can pick them up on Amazon for (which are firsts) for $276 because I have a 20% coupon for signing up for their mailing list. I assume the outlet will charge me tax so I'm only looking at about $34 to get firsts over seconds.

Am I missing an opportunity to get these (or any AE shoe) cheaper somewhere that I don't know about? I checked the B&S area of these forums.

    Thanks.

I was not ordering anything from the current seconds sale. Still breaking in a few new pairs, and didn't really need anything so just going to sit this one out and enjoy the photos from everyone else. Positive about it. Well, at least fairly certain. Next thing I know I'm reading off my credit card number. Walnut Jeffersons on the way.

I'm positive I will not order anything from the next sale. I think.

Hope one of them works out. As an alternative, you as an Alden guy arguably have given them enough business to ask for a replacement set of laces for your 1493s. They send out replacement Indy laces, so it can't hurt to ask in this case.

SAPHIR PRESENTATION ROSEWOOD BOX - $600.00 (US Dollars)
    Fully stocked - as seen

(Considering your craftsman suggested $700 - $800 for a full size wood glass-door presentation cabinet for your shoes, I would think that would be a very good investment compared to something like a Shoe Valet Box for $$400 to $600).

Or something like the following with a drawer at the bottom:

(24 pairs of shoes would fit)
    *******************************************************************

(A Gustav Stickley Cabinet - as seen above - would accommodate a presentation of 60 pair of Allen Edmond Shoes/Boots - plenty to grow into! Gustav Stickley, like Allen Edmonds, also enjoyed an early American start-up in Wisconsin too)

    *********************************************

(But you will need a few of these comfy leather chairs to enjoy a good book - while viewing your AE collection)

    **********************************

So I'd suggest going ahead with your local craftsman - and see how you can give birth to something very special.
