I agree. As previously stated, the McTavish and Elgin are great examples of 5-last shoes with double soles, and they look fantastic. Shell shoes have a "heavier" look and frequently have double soles, so it would be in keeping with that theme, but in the end it is personal preference.

Lovely photo! They should hire you to do their commercial photos. The shots on their site are terrible.

When it comes to photography, nothing is worse than a horrible picture. I extremely hate it when pictures are screwed with different "themes" or "affects".

I must say, this picture you took is amazing. The color, the light, and the composition are fantastic.

Got 2 out of my 3 pairs from shoe bank today. The Vernons had pretty bad creasing all over the right shoe, and a big chunk hacked out of the welt. Can't keep em. The creases I could live with, but not a damaged edge and welt.

Too bad, as they are the best fitting shoes I've ever tried. I think I'll just have to bite the bullet and buy the firsts.

The grey McTavish is killer. Fits well, looks fantastic. The only flaw I can tell is that maybe they were a little too aggressive on the distressing. But I think it adds character. Maybe it will reduce the life of the shoe in the long run, but....I only paid $129 so can't complain.

My Regent Streets should arrive tomorrow. nice.

Thank you all for your input regarding the soles, and especially Mike, regarding the edge trim information! It sounds like there's no real down side to the double, so I'll try that, and I'm thinking the storm welt will also look sharp. I've left messages for Debra on Monday and Tuesday, perhaps I should send an email today, so I can get my MTO finalized. :nodding:

Love them. This is my next shoe. If you don't mind... how TTS do these run? I have two McAllister in 7.5E (5 last) and wondering what size would be appropriate in this shoe.

New Shell Cordovan Daltons arrived today. Was home not feeling well, so I now had something to do. Here they are straight out of the box. These are seconds that I scored for $466. There are a couple of minor dings, but nothing that I can't live without.

Here they are after some some stripping with Reno Mat, a wipe down with a damp rag, some Renovateur, some brushing another wipe down and a bunch of brushing...

Here are the new Shells next to my Walnut Calf Daltons.

I also got a pair of AE MB Yankee loafer for only $19. Not a bad score...
