Thanks Cold Iron, great info as usual. And just the right time too since I've been debating about JR sole vs butyl for Bayfield and Eagle County (in Dublin), think I'll ask for the for JR and factory tap soles option when I order since I haven't found a good local cobbler yet.

Still can't decided b/t Walnut Shell and Truffle/Cappucino for Bayfield. On the one hand I already have a pair of Dundees in Truffle, Strands in Dark Brown, Cambridge/Leeds/MacNeil in Burgundy, so I am missing Walnut, on the other hand I really like the way Truffle appears differently under different lights.

Having some "v" gap is ok, but that looks like too much gap, try the same size but in E(or size .5 down in length and E, if you can)

I have a high instep, the d fits great everywhere else but the instep. It doesn't cause any discomfort for me.I just had to learn to live with a gap at the top. In fact I learned this on my first AE s walnut strand.

Thanks. I thought it looked a bit weird. Size 7 is cozy enough and 6.5 might be too small so 7E is probably the way to go. Too bad I'll have to wait till monday for customer service.

Long time reader of this thread, but first post. For starters, thanks for all the informative posts and interesting discussions. This thread has been very helpful for me, although a bit expensive. I purchased a McAllister with the combination tap sole during the last AE sale, and it just arrived yesterday. I really like it, and am now considering if I should jump at getting a custom version in shell. Sounds like several others are doing the same. Just curious why folks are picking the McAllister and not the Cambridge for the custom order? Is it just a preference on sole thickness?

    Thanks.

I think both shoes are the same but Cambridge always refers to shell

I have Deborah story as well. I order the webgem Cappuccino shell Dundee when they were offered. At that time I had 4 pair of shoes made on the 1 last including boots and shoes. I wear a 9.5E in all of them. I ordered the Dundees in 9.5E and when I got them they were huge. I got in touch with Deborah who looked at my order history and saw that I was indeed wearing 9.5E and she wanted to have those shoes sent back to her to have them re-lasted to see if they came out right. She called a week later and said they the shop guys confirmed that they were marked the correct size and she offered to have the boots made in two sizes to ensure that I got the perfect fit. She sent a 9.5D and a 9.5E to the AE store closest to me and I went and picked out the ones that fit the best. I was really impressed with the experience.

I wouldn't call that "open a bit." That's almost half-way off of your foot, haha. Try going down by a half size and up by a width.

The thing is size 7 is pretty much the smallest size I can go. There's little to no space between my heel and the heel of the shoe when I push my foot all the way in. I'm going to try 7E next, if that doesn't work out, EE, or would you recommend me going straight for the EE?

Keep an open mind on going down a half size in length when you go up in width. May not work for you, but that is the normal formula for many, so do not automatically dismiss it. Try on a 7E and and a 6.5E and see how they fit.

    Good morning gentlemen,
I just wanted to follow up on my previous post.
I contacted the Allen Edmonds outlet in Italy and they di carry the same lines. The only difference is price, which is way above what they are sold here in North America. Ergo "buying America made shoes in Europe=not a good idea".
I've been wanting to buy a split toe/apron tie for a while now to round off my collection and I seriously can't seem to decide what to get. Just to keep it in the AE family, there are Delrays and Lasalles that are calling my name from Scilla and the Parkways that are singing to me from Cariddi..
On top of that the Alden's are leading the charge of the barbarians lines..
In essence I really don't know which direction I have to take! All I know is that it will be a brown shoe and I will be wearing it casually (weekends, jeans, casual Fridays with khakis).
    Would you have any suggestion?
    Thank you all,
    Max
