Just curious, when a shoe is 270 degree welted, what process is used to hold the rest of the shoe in-place (assuming the non-welted part is the part that goes around the heel)?

Grr, they so easily acquiesced to refund my purchase price down to $100 dollars, perhaps I should have asked for more [IMG]

all in all is 100 dollars for a pair of spotless kenilworths (save for a small heel crack) a good deal?

Try running to a local cobbler and see what they can do about the crack. I don't know a thing about that kind of repair, but who knows...maybe it won't be a lot. It may not look perfect, but hey.

Alas, the saddle shoe Webgem is gone and any record of the shoe on AE's website has been completely removed! I was certain that orders were open until the end of May, but perhaps it was really April? You snooze, you lose... Bummer, I really liked that shoe too.

It looks like the whole webgem section is gone. Maybe a glitch? Good thing I already ordered my orange ones!

Well this is the link where they were located:

    http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF2484_1_40000000001_-1

I had it bookmarked because I was simply fawning over these shoes. The webpage now reads, "We're sorry. This product has recently sold out and is no longer available for purchase. We are in the process of removing it from our website."

The Allen Edmonds factory store for Phoenix is somewhat on my route to work. Next Monday morning I may stop in and inquire about the shoes.

Edit: Scratch that; why go to the trouble when I could let my fingers do the walking instead? I sent an e-mail to AE customer service asking whether the shoes will become available again. The only reason I'm being so persistent about this is that I was very certain the website said they would be taking orders through May.

Question, I know AE makes shoes that Lands End sells, but does anyone know who makes the LE brand name shoes? Specifically the Fulton loafer. It's $149 on the website right now but they are running a 40% off sale. $90 for a pair of loafers that appear good year welted might be too good to pass up - even more so if they are made by AE under the private label. I did read that they may be made by Samello in Brazil whom I have never heard of. Can anyone confirm or deny?

    Thanks.

No shank on the 360 degree welted shoes, which the Kenilworths are. They show this in one of their factory videos - the 360 degree welt givse the shoe enough structure that it does not need a shank.

This is the problem I am having.. there are so many new posts each day now, that I miss when MoneyWellSpent answers a question before I've read his post! Excellent info, especially on the nails. I actually was wondering why some shoes have nails showing outside the heel and some don't.

And WTH has happened to this thread? I see 60+ new posts a day, and I assume there's a new controversy! But no, it's just people discussing shoes again. :slayer:

The LE branded shoes are made in Brazil, I think. It's been that way for years - Brazil has a history of good, albeit cheaper construction shoes. I don't know if this is still the case, but Payless Shoes used to source from Brazil, too. Definitely not AE. You can safely assume from the price which are the AE shoes.
