1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

From the bottom of the heel to the top of the quarter = 7" exactly.

This is a trick question right? The answer is that it doesn't matter, because you should not be buying either of those shoes in black.

Have you guys ever used the shoe fit guide available on the AE website? Would you say it is fairly accurate?

I'm using it now and my feet are slightly inside the E (wide) zone. When I had my foot measured at the AE store, the SA told me that I could still fit in a D (medium) and that he would recommend a D. However, based on the guide, I think I should be an E -- according to the guide, you should go wider, not narrower. FYI, my AE D-width pairs are my most comfortable leather shoes.

Any suggestions? I'm ordering another pair (McAllisters) and, unfortunately, I don't have access to an AE shoe store right now so I can't fit the shoes.

Picture of my 11D Strands (please don't base it on the lacing gap -- I believe I have a higher than average instep).

Personally, I find the fitting guide spot on, but everyone's feet are different, and it is better to have room than no room, pity you didn't try on the 11E in store, did they only have D?

Try straight European lacing, it will help with the gap.

I'm not really sure if they didn't have an E. I went to the Rockefeller store in nyc and they seemed to have sufficient stock at that time. I also wouldn't say the SA was lazy, because I must have tried on several pairs in different colors and models and the SA was consistently gracious and chatty.

I do now regret not having tried an E while I was there. I guess I just went along with what the SA recommended. Plus, I've always worn a D, so I didn't think it odd at that time.

Looking at the pictures, would you say I would still be okay (be better) with an E?

The gap on my new Strands and McAllisters is more prominent than on my broken in Park Avenues, so I'm assuming once you break the shoes it will close a little bit, especially when you break in the insole.

I can say no one can really tell by looking at photos, from my experience, a wider fitting doesn't help with the gap much. However, if the D fitting is just snug, as in any narrower while be uncomfortable, an E fitting won't be bad, any any reduction in that gap would be good.

I wear Loake UK F and G fittings, and F is just right, so I don't mind the extra room in G.

Poorly fitting shoes (shoes that need to be stretched) will often have prominent creasing patterns. I know from experience.

Well the issue is that it's only my one toe that causes an issue, so I don't want to go to a bigger size because of one problem area. Does that make sense? The other shoe just has normal crease marks.
