The dark brown is front row, bottom in the picture I posted of the Dundee's. Truffle next to it at the top front.

I haven't taken a picture of my brown Patriot's with other brown shoes yet. But here is the 744 which AE made for Wolverine and Horween calls Dark Cognac or in house #449. There are some rumors floating around that it is the same color as the brown shell strand. As you can see it fits the rainbow perfectly. I already have the Strand in walnut shell and mine have enough dark in them that it would be redundant to get the brown Strands. So I too can't wait for your Dark Brown shell Dundee's to come in for you to compare [IMG]

Above left to right is Dark Brown, Wolverine 744 in Dark Cognac, Truffle, and Walnut. The Dark Cognac certainly is different from Dark Brown and truffle. C&J also makes the Marlow for RL with Dark Cognac shell:

Because of the lack of bright lighting it is hard to tell the difference here but left to right is dark brown Dundee, 744, C&J, 744 and walnut. The C&J is identical in color to the 744's IRL although the captoe on the one 744 is a bit lighter the rest of it matches.

OK so where the heck where you when I wanted to add one more shell chukka to my collection and thought that Ravello would be unique? Ravello can vary a lot based on the amount of red in it and the pair of Ravello that I got is lacking a lot of red. So it is almost identical to the AE walnut. I thought whiskey was closer to walnut but you are correct, Ravello and walnut are very close in color.

Left to right Walnut shell Dalton, walnut shell Strand, walnut shell Dundee, and Alden Ravello. All 3 walnut shell vary a little bit. The Daltons were ordered when the Walnut options were first offered and are a different color, especially over time, than the other 2 walnut shell which were ordered later. It has developed into what I would call a true walnut color. That is the beauty of shell IMO however, variations. I will put a commando sole on the Alden's for wear in winter weather and make them a bit different from the AE Dundee's. There is a very slight reddish tint to the Ravello but with indoor lighting you can't really tell the difference from the walnut shell. I wish that I would had picked up the whisky instead. But have enough chukka's now, even for me.

Thanks, C.I. - that's the picture I meant! Also appreciate the information about Horween Dark Brown vs. Dark Cognac - good catch. I was one of those wondering aloud on this forum about whether there was a difference between "brown" and "dark brown" in Allen Edmonds' parlance. Apparently, there is. Also, great picture showing the different hues of Walnut. I bet if AE ever comes out with another webgem in truffle or walnut they'll fly off the shelves!

Is the Ralph Lauren Tan the same color as Allen Edmonds Walnut?

Had a chance to wear the Amok suede chukkas I picked up a while back for $90. I know they don't get a lot of love around here, but I found them comfortable and terrific looking. We'll see how durability goes over time. I would definitely pick up other colors if they are ever re-released.

Wow- good as new? Did they require a break-in period again?

They LOOK good as new! Money well spent!

Looking great! Too bad they don't make this model. It is one of my faves.

Thank you, sir. I agree. I purchased these on Clearance last year from AE. I would love a pair in dark brown and black as well. Hell, I'd buy a pair in any color (well, maybe not gray).

Not much break in required. With the footbed already molded to my feet, they felt like new shoes already broken in to my foot. They redo the cork footbed, but the insole still has the slight indentions that perfectly matched my feet. And even though the leather is refinished and looks new, it has been flexed to fit my foot.

I found the Tan to be lighter than the walnut (some previous posts in this thread agree with me). The fact that I've had my walnut shoes for >1 year might also accentuate that fact.
