I have already sent an email with a custom request. As you may have seen, last week I got my Brown Shell Strands, but they really weren't brown, more of a brown/burgundy. I do love the color, but was, and still am jonesin for some lighter shell shoes. So, I have asked for a Walnut Shell, I believe Horween calls it truffle. The same color AE had the special Walnut Shells last year. I asked for either the Macneil or the William Williams in the Walnut Shell. Either would be beautiful. I will update with whatever response I get.

And I got to agree; Paul Grangaard is the f***ing man!

So I've been looking at shell cordovan colors and I found some that I like: Natural, Whiskey, Blue, Green, and #4. I know the Whiskey is standard fair for some shoemakers, but am I crazy to be thinking about shoes in the other four colors? I guess my tastes are a little more on the colorful, seeing as one of my favorite pairs is the orange Horseman. I wonder if AE will ever make shoes in those other colors...

This sounds like a great offer from Mr. Grangaard. I think I will be putting in a custom request and see what happens.

Thanks for the excellent customer support Paul!

Whiskey would be great, as would #4. Good luck on the others. I think with the shell shortage, it's just not likely. Alden, for example, can't keep up with the demand in any of the "exotic" colors. AE's model seems to be different than Alden's though - AE procures the material from Horween first, then decides what shoe model to use with it, then offers it to the public. I just keep pinging my contacts at AE and watching the webgems area and hoping...

+1 One of the reasons I enjoy buying from Allen Edmonds - the customer service is outstanding. I love seeing that the customer 1st attitude goes all the way to the top. Just think: quality shoes that can last decades, made in the USA, top quality materials, and great customer service to top it all off! That's a recipe for a great company.

GOP - I hope they will be able to get you some walnut shell. From my recollection, Walnut shell was different than Cappuccino (which Horween calls Truffle). Similar, but the walnut is lighter with deep brown hues in it. I think Cold Iron has a few great pictures comparing them - but here are a few I found... Walnut first, then Cappuccino. I'm still kicking myself for not getting the cappuccino McAllisters... over a year later.

Paul, thank you for taking the time to post here - I trust you will find a strong contingent of members here who are borderline nutty about your shoes, strong advocates of your brand and appreciate the time and attention.

I work overseas so don't have the chance to try on a pair, but I could order them and have them waiting for my next short trip home. So-

Does anyone wear a Bass Weejun loafer, or Johnston and Murphy dress shoe such as a cap toe who wears the same size in the AE? I am a very consistent 8.5 in Cole-Haan, Bass, JM etc and would like to start with AE as a dress shoe- they have the variety to see me through any business shoe I require, and with the CEO offer on the table for custom that should handle anything else if I get bored!

International shipping here is a nightmare, so bad option- no FedEx/UPS etc, government-owned shipping so total fubar and pricing is obscene...

    So- anyone??

Considering that even the company CEO is now reading StyleForum to hear about and get feedback on AE shoes, I for one am curious about the recrafting service. If anyone has sent their shoes in for this, maybe post up with pictures of the before and after, talk about the overall experience and time to get this done, results? Suggestions? It sounds like a good idea, to spend 20-25% of the cost of the shoes to get an almost as good-as-new shoe that you know you like, and maybe even better because it's already broken in?

Mr. Grangaard (and fellow SF brothers),
I just went out to the living room and read this message to my wife. I told her that Allen Edmonds just earned a life-time customer. I also told her that I will spend money on shoes I don't even need, just because I appreciate the Allen Edmonds business model and CEO. You "get it".

AE produces a quality product, invests in America, focuses on customer service, and honors members of the U.S. military by providing military pricing through AAFES. Now Allen Edmonds' CEO is reaching out to its loyal customer base in a transparent and honest offer to give us a chance to have the exact version of the shoe we want????

    Insane.

Sadly, I will not be taking you up on the kind offer- I've still got a list of regular line shoes to buy - (shell Leeds for my military uniform are up next- saving my nickles). But I wanted to say that the immensity of what you have just done it is not lost on us and we will reward Allen Edmonds' loyalty with ours.

    Your new life-long customer,
    Tom Horner
    U.S. Navy

I've used the service 4 times. No photos, sorry. I will say, though, that its absolutely worth while: they do an amazing job.

I currently wear a 13D Bass Weejun (Logan) and my toe is pretty close to the end of the shoe. Used to wear a 13B that my father had ordered accidentally, but that was definitely too narrow.

In terms of length, all of my Allen Edmonds shoes are 12s and 11.5s and have plenty of room in front of my toe in comparison to the Weejuns.

In terms of width, the shoes I have on the 5 last (Park Avenue, Strand, Strawfut) are 12D and 11.5E. The 12Ds felt a little tight when I first wore them but seem to have loosened up a little since then. the 11.5E is the right width, and I'm thinking of ordering a 12E in the future since that should be just about perfect.

I have two pairs on the 4 last (Byron, Ritz) in 12D that fit perfectly in both length and width.

I have three pairs on the 2 last (Players's Shoe in 12E and 12D, and Carlsbad in 12E), with 12D being manageable for short periods of time but definitely too narrow, and even the 12E Carlsbad feels a little narrow, although tomorrow will be the first time I wear it for a whole day.

I have one pair on the 8 last (Quinton) in 12E, which is perfect in terms of width and length.

Finally, I have a pair of Patriot loafers on the 6 last in 12E. Width is perfect but the length feels just a wee bit short, think I'll step up to 13D or E if I end up getting another pair.

So I finally got around to taking pictures of my custom Neumoks:

    1. First up is the good old blue and white with a natural sole.
    2. Then I have a pair of all white with a black sole.
    3. Las I have a pair of orange and white. Like I said before, the white wasn't pebble, and it cam with a butyl sole. Odd, but I like it.

    Butyl sole:

Trying to show the difference between pebble and non-pebble white, but it doesn't show up well:

All in all, I like all three.

I have used it 5 times and all results were great. This is the only photos I have at this time.
