Received my burgundy Scottsdales(orthotic Patriots) from the tent sale today. The SA I worked with at the San Francisco AE store said that the Scottsdales would be slightly wider in the toe box than the other 1511G styles. I was skeptical though as it was my understanding that lasts were the same and the style didn't effect it. I tried on the Winterparks in the store and found the toe box to be too narrow. Sitting at my desk at home wearing them around the house to see if the SA was correct or not.

They're definitely Players, which are one of the models on sale for this Nordstrom Sale.

If I didn't already own the RL Sanderson in walnut, I'd buy walnut Players in a heart beat. I really wish they made a brown Players Shoe.

Which leads me to my next statement: I'm considering buying the RL Sanderson in brown. It's such a beautiful shoe, especially with the burnishing at the toe. My only reservation is that perhaps I should instead invest in a brown balmoral with some sort of brogueing (Strand, McAllister, etc) instead.

I'm in Canada, so just taking a chance costs me $45 to have them shipped. Never mind possibly shipping them back too.

For anyone wondering, Chris at the shoe bank told me brogue suede was darker than amok snuff but lighter than the bitter chocolate, and has no brogueing, thats just the name of the color. I have no idea where mocha fits in there.

I have to correct you (partially)..

NAFTA will help you avoid custom duties, and Allen Edmonds will pay for your returns.

Yes, the 45 dollars for the way to your doorstep are still there...

Depending on where you live, Harry Rosen outlet might be an option. Last weekend I was in Mississauga and found firsts Lasalle for 145 plus taxes.

I'll be heading there this week to make note of what they have. I think they have the Kenilworth, McAllister and maybe one or two more. I'll keep you posted as to what I find. But the selection is low, and the prices are pretty terrible. I think all of the AEs that they carry there are $355-475, and they almost never go on sale.

What are you planning to wear them with? I'm curious for ideas...other than the obvious (jeans and khakis)

I have them on right now in my office, with blue Docker khakis...with the natural leather welt showing, they'd look great I think with tan khakis...and of course with Jeans I think they'll rock. I think they'd do well with dressier slacks in those colours as well. Pictures don't do the deep, richness of the blue colour any justice. In some lights, they look almost black. And in direct sunlight, the light blue stitching almost glows neon-blue. Very cool, and very 'different', which is why I like them. My AE collection is almost completely leaning towards casual, as our office is a 'business-casual-lite' environment...almost anything but jeans. McTavish tan, McTavish grey, Neumok blue, Cronmok blue, Dalton Walnut, Strand Walnut, PRL Saunders...all can certainly be worn with casual slacks or dockers...or jeans!

I realize this sale is over, but still wanted to ask this. Have y'all noticed that the sizing is confusingly different when getting from Nordstrom Rack? The websites of Allen Edmonds and Woodlore both seem to agree on the following sizes:

However, both times I went to the rack I found that size Small only goes up to size 7.5. This was both on the box and on the following sign:

Is that because they don't specify width and want to ensure it works for EEE? Presumably there's no difference and I should stick with the online chart, right? Incidentally, I wear 8.5D or 9D depending (though I measure 9.5D on a Brannock device), so I'm still unsure if I should be buying Small or Medium.

I appreciate the info about the return costs being covered, I have not seen that anywhere in my research on their site. Not that I looked too hard for it.

In this case however I was asking for the difference between two browns of a discontinued shoe. So while I've been to Brooks Brothers and Harry Rosen here, they don't have what I would need. I absolutely have to make it out to the Harry Rosen outlet still though. Drove right past it on Saturday but couldn't stop.

It seems like on all past sales before I learned about Allen Edmonds shipping was $25 for the first pair to Canada and then increased for each pair of shoes. Does anyone know why the price went up? Cost of doing business? Do they ship with someone else or a faster service now? I almost feel I need to buy more than 1 pair of shoes to make the $45 worth it.

Anyway, I dove into Allen Edmonds head first this month. My first pair was a Mcallister in merlot, along with a Red Sox Sandlot, and a Red Sox Ballpark. I now have a Strand in Walnut on the way. Would have some belts coming too, but they can't transfer the tent sale belts to the warehouse where my Strands are shipping from and I'm not about to pay the $45 shipping fee again on a $39 belt.

I'm in Canada too and pulled the trigger on some Bourbon Kenilworth. They should be here in 1-2 weeks from what I was told. I really can't wait. I'm also hoping the fit will be perfect, tried a very similar model at Harry's but you never know :S...

Beautiful shoes! I love the Player's. It's a fantastic shoe and it can be consistently purchased at an enormously reasonable price. Hope you enjoy them.

Free shipping both ways, plus they can order anything a local store does not have in stock. Perhaps AE will follow suit and open their own Canadian store or outlet.

In the meantime, the Canadian Dollar has weakened against the US Dollar a bit, and the forecast may or may not be worse for use of Canadian dollars. I recall when my US dollar of $1.00 got $1.25 in Canadian goods. This may be a part of raising some costs.

If AE is charging $45, you may want to go with a US based Nordstroms store which will charge you $35 to ship directly to you with the guarantees of returns.

There is also a fabulous sale coming up in a few weeks with top styles at 35% off regular retail at one of the AE major retailers. That would certainly pay for the extra shipping.

    My best to you,

    David

Shipping to Canada is actually coming up at $10 for a pair of Strands and $15 for the faster shipping method. When the 35% hits that will be a really good deal for us Canadians. Thank you very much.
