    Thanks for the recommendation.

If I get an answer to the effect that they'd be simple to re-dye, anyone have fun project suggestions? Maybe a McAllister in a dark brown? Or similar to the new bourbon color on strands?

Sandersons arrived today. Look great. Fit was also good. Was worried about that poster that said they are narrower or use a slimmer last.

If anyone ordered the Slatons in brown 9.5D and would like to do a straight up trade, let me know. I have too many winged shoes :embar: and need some brown captoes.

Either you're an excellent photographer or the color on those is MUCH nicer than the AE branded longwings. Great pickup!

Unfortunately the shoes didn't work out for me. I am usually a 9D in both the 8 and the 5... but the Slatons and Sandersons seemed to be a width narrower.[IMG]

I have learned my lesson last year. I always go ½ size up on RL branded shoes. 8E on strand Slaton 8.5D fits like a glove ! RL Saunders even worse. I have them in 8.5D and the toe box still too narrow.

Interesting. I found the Singleton to be wider than AE's 8 last and pretty close to the 5 last width-wise. I need a tongue pad to prevent heel slippage, but I'm liking it enough to keep it.

Could somebody tell me when is the best time to purchase from AE. I'm looking for AE park avenue for around $ 150. I'm Chicago. There is a Michigan Ave store in downtown. I don't know their sales event as intimate as BB's. Many thanks, gents.

Nordstrom Anniversary sale in July has first quality park avenues for $220ish. Seconds were just on sale for $129 a few days ago.

The best time of year is usually Nordstrom's summer sale, where the PAs are usually around $200 (I think they might have increased prices to $210 last year). If you aren't willing to wait until July, there are probably options on sale factory seconds around the same price. I have no idea when AE's retail stores will be offering a sale on firsts.

Got my tan calf Sandersons and Chili grain Macneils. I barely could detect the defect with the Sandersons and the Macneils have a couple of acceptable defects. The Macneils are my first try at the 7-last, and they seem to fit very well at my Brannock size, so they are keepers. The Sandersons seem just a little bit cramped in the toe-box, but I think it could be fine with a bit of wear. They certainly look pretty awesome, so I'm leaning toward keeping them. I think both of them are very nice LWBs.

    Onto a few pics:

E has their annual Rediscover America Sale around Sep. Besides clearance, this is the best time to buy AE firsts (Nordstrom sale is good but the selection will not be as good as AE Rediscover Amercia). AE has seconds sales several times per year, some are advertised, some are not. The best place to stay informed about AE sales: this thread.

Sorry for shitty pics it's late and I took these with the phone.
Is this a deal breaker? They're seconds. I can cover it up with wax polish.

I ordered Monday and got no tracking info emailed to me. So I called yesterday and was given the tracking info. The lady on the phone yesterday(who was very friendly btw) who processed my order Monday, told me they went out Monday, because she was gone Tuesday and Wednesday. However the tracking info on my order shows the shoes shipped on Wednesday afternoon. I ordered Monday, and they weren't shipped until Wednesday??? That is not the customer service I expect from AE. I suppose I am not in dire need of another pair of shoes, I have 13 pairs of AE's, I just expect more from them.

Were these seconds ordered from an outlet? I am sure they got bombarded with orders from the Ralph Lauren sale. I suppose if you had ordered from the website, the shipment probably would have gone out sooner.

It was ordered from the shoe bank. I understand a large work load, but when she tells me one thing, and then the tracking proves something else, it is disappointing. Again, not the customer service I expect from AE.

Also, I ordered last week the Brooks Strand. I actually think they arrived the next day or two days later after I ordered them. I worn them twice now. I know they have the poron insole, but I am surprised at how much tighter this shoe is compared to other AEs I have on the same last. Also, they squeak a bit when I walk. I love the look of the shoe, abut am hoping they stretch a bit and stop squeaking...
