With the current sale, I am extremely tempted by a couple of items. One of these is the Loden suede Higgins Mill boot. The Higgins Mill and Freeport fit me well. I also have two other pairs of green boots (though neither pair fits me quite as well as the HM.) I decided to wear one of my other pairs of green boots today while I think about this. (Non-AE in sun and shade)

My son turns 38 this month, so I ordered him a pair of Loden HM...

In the same boat of pining over the loden HM.

Even SF ads are against me! Just $140 for seconds though, dang. It's been so long since I ordered a pair of seconds and I'm a lot pickier than I was then... so $200 for firsts, still not bad! Dang...

Non AE related: I happened to visit Ponce City Market in ATL again when hosting some out of state guests, and wandered back into Cobbler Union. Peter, the knowledgeable SM on hand explained they were actually leaving the market this Sunday. They plan to have another showroom in the future, but for now everything will only be online.

I did note that they are offering an extra 20% off of everything in light of the close, though. For those of you in the area.

That's really sad to hear.

The retail world right now is dreadful. Covid really *********** brick and mortar stores the hardest, and with a labour shortage it's only getting worse. Plus, upticks in crime and other undesirable social behaviour...

I agree that you fall into the extremely old people bracket.
There are many types of sneakers. When we care for people that are dying from cancer, we wear running shoes.
When we want to be comfortable and casual, we wear dress sneakers.
Have you ever owned a pair of Allen Edmonds dress sneakers??
What the hell is wrong with you?

Absolutely abhorrent. My father wore a tie and dress shoes every weekday, and occasionally on weekends. I carry that same torch. Formal dress, especially dress shoes,
should not go the way of the dodo.

I remember as a child watching old movies and thinking, "one day, I want to dress like those gentlemen".

And you know, you can dress like that....it isn't dead.

This right here. I always admired the way men dressed then and I occasionally aspired to it in my professional life as a musician, but too often let myself be lazy and just got in with everyone else. After losing a bunch of weight during the pandemic I decided that I would come back to work and begin dressing as well as possible at all times (like all my heroes did), including in my free time (although I'm decidedly more casual there... I do live in New Orleans where it's hot 2/3 out of the year after all).

Sometimes I'm in a suit and other cats on the gig are in jeans and a tank top, but I just don't worry about it. I found a treasure trove of old fashion illustrations from Esquire from its inception that I use for inspiration, and since it's hot as balls here during the summer and not all the clubs are that well air conditioned, I have been having fun playing with daytime resort wear inspired looks (but no shorts, and usually a jacket, just not always a shirt and tie).

Anyway, keep fighting the good fight!
Dressing well is never out of good taste. Keep it up.

I do, within reason. I own a Biltmore fedora, though truly in today's world, especially in Vancouver, when I wear it I probably look more like hipster-poser than a gentleman.

I wear Mac Neils almost every workday, and always a tie with suspenders, or as my mum called them, braces.

Braces is the "correct" term (British vs American English language) and good for you...Albert Thursten makes the best braces BTW. Wear what you like and feel good in,, and the heck with others...Create your own style. Classic Menswear has not changed much since the 1930's, so dig into vintage pix, magazines and you will find that what was good then, is still good now...

The wife was in the hospital for five days.
On the sixth day (at home), I asked “how do you feel?”

Instead of an answer, I got attitude.
No apology. I guess that means she’s back to normal.
I will never ask that again.

The Chester. This is the EXACT shade I have been looking for since 2015 and I only find them in black. I did go with the black, but it was alligator. This is an amazing shoe. I think AE would sell a TON of these should they ever make another appearance.

Doc, what color is this?? It's really nice.

I found out recently that there was a shoe called the Fairhaven, which is on the 73 last. Always happy to discover AE models I did not previously know about.
