What was your first pair of Allen Edmonds and where did you get them from?

For me, it was a Factory 2nd walnut Fifth Ave from the website, and I bought that specific shoe because it was the most discounted of the "classic" AE dress shoes.

Let’s see. I’m 45 now and got my first pair of AE about 5 years ago. I picked up a pair of Madison Aves from Nordstrom Rack. Then, I found this site and got what I feel were my first real pair of AE shoes where I was properly fitted at the store, some dark chili Fifth Aves. My collection is roughly 40 pair now, with about a third of them being shell. Those Fifth Aves are still my lucky pair when I want to get a win, I put those on. They’re buttery soft and easy to mirror shine. LOVE THEM!

If you’re curious what the Madison Ave is, here’s an image I found. These aren’t mine though. I’ve long since sold them.

And speaking of some of the first pairs of AE I owned, I found some pictures of some of my initial purchases. The earlier pair of black LWBs I posted were Regent Street. Then came a pair of Mapleton and a Schauntal, both found at Burlington Coat Factory in 2015. Just $34.99 for the Schautal. I still have both and am wearing the Mapleton today for moving and stacking some boxes. Yes, the dreaded bicycle toe and they are made of saddlehorn leather, like a baseball glove. Very comfortable and your can't mess them up. Just brush and Bick 4 is all they ever need.

The first part of my life I was in cowboy boots, a concert t-shirt, and long sleeve button up western shirt (I'm a Mexican cowboy).

My adult daughter picked and purchased my first pair of nice shoes (A. Testoni in black crocodile). They are my oldest and favorite pair of shoes.

The following week she began teaching me how to dress. It changed my life.

I need some advice on which shoe to wear to my mother’s celebration of life in 2 weeks.

Background info:
My mother passed away Dec 31, 2020, from Covid. We were going to celebrate her and my father’s 50-year anniversary in 2020, but had to postpone it sue to the pandemic. She didn’t make it through, so we decided that we would use the celebration reservation for her celebration of life instead.
This is not a funeral. We never did a funeral, and I don’t think she would have wanted one. A war refugee, she lived her early life without citizenship to any country. Her closet surviving family outside her line and descendants of the cousin who brought her to this country will be attending, and she would have seen it as a true celebration.

I will be wearing a suit, but it won’t be with a tie. I was planning on wearing the jacket and pants without the vest from my mid-grey suit. For shoes, I was thinking of wearing one of three festive shoes that I’ve never worn before: navy and white AE broadstreets, burnished cherry red cobbler Union Alex longwings, or brown and white cobbler Union spectators. I know many would be against bluchers and wings with a suit, but this isn’t a formal event (suit and no tie). I’ve attached a picture of all three options next to the suit and would love feedback.

First, sorry for your loss. The celebration sounds like a great tribute to your mother.

as far as the shoes, I think the navy/white Broadstreets would look good with the suit.

My sincere condolences to your late mother. It's amazing what our parents do/did for us to have a better life. My vote would be for those cherry red longwings. I love the look of those with the medium/light grey suit! My suggestion is whatever you wear, make sure they're comfortable. I find that when you are immediate family that you're constantly on your feet.

I think the colors all work, but each differently, which is why it’s hard to decide. It’s a catered event, so I’ll be just talking to family and friends, but not serving them. These should all be comfortable for me.

Let me completely detach myself from AE for the sake of this response. So, I will assume these are all AE. Going from left to right, and this is a close call, my choices would be 1,3,2. Hell, if I were you, I would wear the navy/white there and reserve the brown and white in the car, just in case the feeling hit me to change. You know, in case others in your family show up in AE spectators.
