This is a thing right now, as far as I can tell. The chunky sole on loafers and boat shoes is in for whatever reason.
Chunky soled loafers isn't a new thing for AE.

Abandoned? No! They certainly expanded into casual a lot though. I’m enjoying some of that new offerings. They are making some very high-quality boots, too.

The boots are fine. Dalton, Higgins Mill, Landon, Hamilton - they're great. I own two of those, and wouldn't be opposed to owning all four. They also have some nice utility boots like the Alpines, which I love for winter weather.

But they have gotten rid of way more dress shoe models than they have replaced.

AE has definitely made a pivot into more casual offerings, for a younger “Chonk” market. I’ve pretty much decided to only purchase “vintage” styles on the secondary market, unless they happen to bring back the Dundee in shell cordovan. Seeing that it hasn’t been offered in the past couple of trunk shows, I haven’t made a new AE purchase since TS 2019. It’s a bit disappointing. The most amazing benefit is that we have a resource like @ae_ashley. She keeps hope alive for all the good stuff like trunk show and GMTOs. I really appreciate all of her effort!

Ashley and Jason are the reason for all my non-ebay purchases at Allen Edmonds excluding maybe one or two.

Old AE styles are/were amazing and whenever given the chance, I buy them. Also, I like the trunk shows and limited runs.

I own all 4 of those boots, and two Landons alone. I wish I had bought the alpine captoe, but I missed it. I also love their totally casual Park City model. I love the sneakers also

The alpine cap toe is still available----the HELL? Why would...

God damnit, Allen Edmonds. The Alpine cap toe is a great winter boot! I have two pairs! Why would you get rid of the Alpine?!?! It's a handsome boot which works great in the snow!

I personally despise their sneakers, but then again, I hate all sneakers.

I like the Alpine cap toe. There were two things holding me back from purchasing a pair:
1. Lack of a B-width option.
2. Terrible customer reviews that repeatedly mentioned separation of the sole.

Those customer reviews may have held back sales to the point that it wasn’t worth keeping in the lineup. Was this an issue that AE had fixed? If so, AE really should have specifically addressed that in the product description and responses to complaints.

Why does that cap look normal? I thought AE only made huge caps. That boot would be awesome in shell.
One mistake! Next boot will have a huge cap.

I considered buying one from dabondo1, but I didn’t like the wear patterns on the ones he had available
