Question for @Shoenut or anyone else that knows: Would it be technically correct to say the Wilbert in outland brown (not the dark brown) is made of cxl? An experienced AE employee once told me it was cxl. The oils do move if I push on them, which is consistent. I wish AE offered a Higgins in this leather.

These? I always assumed they were CXL. In fact, have that listed as leather type in my spreadsheet. If they aren't, I'd love to know the name for a future boot makeup. (I actually sold my Wilberts recently. Loved the pull-up leather, just wasn't reaching for them.)

@middlepP Yes, those exactly. I have a pair of those (1951) color. I'm just curious why AE doesn't mention they are cxl on the site.

Edit: I realize it's not those exactly. Those are the golden brown cxl. I was talking about the 1951 brown.

I believe that particular leather is made by CF Stead. It is infused with a lot more waxes and less oils. So, you don’t get the pull up effects. Horween uses more oils and less waxes. Both are good wet weather leathers that last But the Outland brown is more susceptible to salt and water stains.

I haver a pair of boots (non-AE) supposedly made of Stead leather. They were getting a little dry, so I conditioned them with AE leather lotion. Wore the boots in some rain (i.e. I had to step in some puddles here and there). After, a white border formed on the boot where it had gotten wet--and the leather on this border is puckered a bit. They look like salt stains except we have not yet gotten snow or ice (no so salt). Brush/rubbing with cloth does nothing.
