Even though there's not a ton of ice on the ground, I'm wearing the Alpine Monkey boots today. They've become my de facto non-workshop work boots (I have a steel toed pair of Thorogoods for doing work in the shop). If they get dinged, they get dinged. And, they get dinged.

I'm wearing them today because one of my brothers is heading back home to the Boulder area tomorrow morning and the blower motor in his Subaru Crosstrek decided to start squealing like an FBI informant. It'd probably be OK for the 14-hour drive back, but why chance it, especially in winter weather where you really want to be sure your heater and defroster are working optimally. Dealer wanted over $600 to replace it. Screw that. $90 part from AutoZone and 15-20 minutes of time and it should be up and running as good as new. In an ideal world, I'd get an OEM fan, but dealership near me wouldn't have one in stock for another few days and it needs to get done now. So, I'm signing off work early this afternoon and I'm going to try to give him some confidence to tackle these sort of things in the future by showing him how to do it. Since I'm sure I'll be bumping into things, figured the Alpine would be a good pair of footwear to have on. Thank you for attending my TED Talk.

People with arches may not understand but when I stand in the Indy boot. My arch bulges out and my pronation is pretty clear. AE boots have a real arch shape that holds my feet in proper position. It looks better and I am not sore after a day of walking. This is a major reason that I am an AE fan. Cause when you feel great, women look past your ugly mug. Another reason I wear my AE footwear to bed.
Sorry for joining this part of the discussion late. I have the same problem. I recently visited Ground Gripper Shoes (the moulded shoe) in NYC- which is home of the modified lasted Aldens. I pronate like hell as well due to collapsed arches (foot injury + complications). I probate so hard I overload the modified last’s arch support. The fix for me is to have the glue in rubber(?) arch supports installed. They make a HUGE difference.

I picked up my marbles black Higgins today. They’re acceptable, which is about as good as you can hope for on something like that. They have some marbling, but they’re not crazy patterned as I had a pipe dream for. I won’t pass judgement or post pics until I can see them in natural light though.

They honestly seem more blue than green with the lighting at the store.
