Yup, the main driving factor for this purchase is because the winter weather here can get pretty rough. As much as I love my lug sole Strandmoks, they're useless for keeping out the snow and rain.

Sometimes you just need a boot and no one wants one flavor every day for the rest of their life.

I broke the streak over the long weekend, throwing on the golden CXL Long Branch boots for a jaunt in the snow yesterday. No pictures, because I'm lazy.

To reiterate my laziness, please enjoy this 7 second process photo of the brown suede Freeport boots. I'm back on the 1757 train again, but wanted to show today's pair as they've come up in discussions with fellow weasels such as the Strand King™. This is what you'd be getting into. I'm a believer in the Freeport boot. Obviously, not as much as the Higgins Mill, but I'm digging what they did with this pair. The sole is super comfortable and not as visibly jarring as some of the lighter colored ones on their other pairs.

How many non-Strands do you own?

If the Strand King wears Freeports and Strandmoks, is he betraying his lineage? Don't blow your wad I expect to see you in Mac Neils.

I used to have around 10 or so non-Strands in the collection, but I've sold or donated (or misplaced) most of them over time. I've also gone through 3 pairs of Porter Derby sneakers, which are my casual go to.

I consider Strandmoks to be a main part of my collection. They're just Strands with reverse welts after all.

Well said! Couldn't have put it better myself.

I was planning on going the Alden Indy route, but the price for both Strandmoks plus the off-brand Indys came out to around the same price range...

Not to stir the pot, but I'm a much bigger fan of Alden's plain toe boots. Consider those as well. Alden makes amazing boots and their steel shanks are very supportive. However, they also take a much larger chunk out of your savings / paycheck. AE makes very good boots at about half the price.

Price was definitely a factor here. The F2 Freeports came out to a little over $200 all said and done, a third of the $600 asking price for a pair of new Indys.

I've been lucky with F2s recently, so hopefully the Freeports arrive in good condition.

How do they fit? I was considering picking up a pair in the sale, but I'm a 10.5B in the 5 last, so I was thinking 11D seeing they don't have narrows, but I'm a bit concerned they'll be too wide.
I wear the same size for the Higgins Mill as I do on the 65 last. My suggestion would be to try a 10.5B.

No matter how bad your day is you can always make it worse by struggling to put on those floppy tongued fools, the grey suede Strandmoks.

For fans of "A-E In The Wild" pictures.

For fans of food pictures in shoe threads, a piece of potato pizza and me at Prince Of Venice on Broxton Avenue two blocks south of UCLA, where I was going after lunch to see one of my doctors.

Prince Of Venice is owned by Prince Emanuele Filiberto Umberto Reza Ciro René Maria di Savoia. He is the son and heir of Vittorio Emanuele di Savoia and only male-line grandson of Umberto II, the last King of Italy.

A close up of the piece of potato pizza. It was very good.

Resisted the temptation to stop here and "kreate my own avocado toast". The odds of me going someplace Paleo, Keto, and Vegan are about the same as the odds of me turning into a wombat.
