Still bummed to hear about Charleston, mostly for the phenomenal people that work there. I hope they find an even better opportunity, and fast.

My ode to Charleston follows. Someone hold my beer.

I’m sure I am missing something and will add posts as I recall additional shoes. Team Charleston - thank you for the excellent shoes, and even better service!

Image links seem to be broken? Or is that just me.

Just received my first pair of Landons and very disappointed with the fit. I have a pair of HM's and Pattons and they fit well throughout. My Hamilton boots also fit well throughout. I also purchased a pair of gently used green suede Saukvilles and they fit like gloves. I have no idea what the last is for these boots.
All of these are in a size 10D.

The Landons, however, have massive volume throughout the instep - so much so, the leather collapses into a divot at the base of the tongue. The base of the forefoot does not feel too wide - my foot does not slide around, but the excessive volume at the instep causes the lacing to completelty distort the shoe on my foot.

These were the olive version and I love the color, so trying to see if there is a solution. Unfortunately this is only available in a B or D width, but not sure going narrower would address the massive instep volume.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Also would appreciate if anyone can tell me what last the Saukvilles are built on.

I'm sorry for your loss and pain.
The 2622 last does NOT wear like the 1757 last. Period.
They have been compared and many fockers have said they are similar. They wear completely f#cking different.

A question about the fit of the Landon had a lot of discussion about a week ago. Most (but not all) reported that the Landon has a length and width similar to other boots (like the Higgins Mill) but with more volume and a higher instep. That is my experience — and now yours too.

I wear a 13B in the Higgins Mill. I have to use an insole to wear the Landon in the same size.

The Saukville is on the 511 last. The 511 last is a little shorter than the 65 last (and those boot lasts you mentioned). I usually have to wear a longer size on the 511.

Here’s a question for the last experts: what boots are available that fit similar to the Long Branch’s 511 last?

I forgot how great these boots are. I bought a pair in 2013 and just found almost-new chromexcel LBs on eBay that I couldn’t pass up. I envy some on here who have a full deck of Long Branches.

Merry Christmas!

Not a completely straightforward question - I could rattle off lots of 511-lasted stuff but truth be told the Long Branch is a casual, "rough-out" type of style that wore (from memory) looser than normal.

My advice would be to try a Dalton and if that feels good to borderline too snug (or something in between, but enough that you gauge length & width are correct), then I'd go for that size combo.

A simple NSFW warning before all of those exotics would have been nice! Outstanding make-ups!

@Neo1 your memory is correct. The LB does wear looser than the Dalton. Enough so that I sold off my same-sized Daltons (man I lovvvvvved the color of those things) because they were too short/narrow.

Similar to the old McT on the 65 vs a PA or Strand. There was also a special collection of rougher/lighter leathers (can't recall the name) that seemed to fit looser than their last would indicate.

thanks for the info/feedback. BTW -also have a pair of Long Branches and two pair of Daltons - all in 10D and all fit just fine ( although HM are the hardest to put on). Landons are the first and only AE boot that has been an issue.

I will try them with some orthotic insoles I use in my running shoes and see if it fixes the problem. Otherwise they sadly will be returned.

Sadly, all your pictures are missing. :(

My new (larger sized) Landon feels more like how people are describing in the ball area. I get a little bit of odd creasing because of this, but I really have no choice. My point is that going up a half size in the Landon was definitely noticeable, while it isn't such a big difference for me in the Higgins. Could size variation be to blame too? Possibly. The only issue I'm having with the olive Landon is that the leather is a little more stiff and one of the boots is digging into my shin area. This never happened with the Higgins boots, because that leather is softer.
