Very interesting. My understanding is that both chromexcel and shell are not compatible with wax, so this explains why cordovan creme would work on chronexcel.

Interestingly, Horween recommends Venetian for both shell and chromexcel, and Venetian does have some wax in it, though less than Renovateur.
It really depends on the wax makeup. A wax emulsion will mix well with oils in the CXL or Shell. A regular wax just sits on top and is prone to drying out quickly. Also, you would never use straight mink oil on any calf leather. But Saphire creme polish is mink oil based. The way that they mix the mink oil makes all the difference on how it works.

Factory Second Strands ($188) from Nov. 2018 that I wear specifically on inclement days (including snow). Dainite has barely moved.

Does anyone know if the dark cognac McTavish (model no. 4045) is Horween Dublin? The fact that the 2013 catalog refers to this leather as dark brown cognac, while referring to the 4005 and 4035 models as "wax infused" leathers leads me to believe it is not Dublin.

Appreciate any insights or conjecture.

I think this Landshark is perfect for a drink at the bar. It laughs at bumping into things.

I cannot answer your question, as I am not enough of a leather guy to know. But I own the 4045, along with the 4105 and 4035. Would a picture help?

Pictures always help, love the color.
I guess the question is whether the 4045 and 4035 that you have feel similar to the touch, or if there is a noticeable difference between the two. I realize this will be a totally subjective / unscientific answer but still would help.

Dublin is a "pull-up" leather - meaning that if you pinch or bend it you will see it temporarily lighten as the pressure causes the infused waxes to shift away, then return to normal when pressure is released. You can try pinching or bending a side panel. If this happens on the other two but not the cognac, then it isn't wax-infused.

Edit: re: the comment about Essex, it is similar to Dublin but won't show as much pull-up effect.

This is exactly why they need to bring back the Sullivan Street as look how friggin' gorgeous these are.

@ae_ashley can we please bring back the following models:

Sullivan
Dundee
Mac Neil
Weybridge
Kenilworth
Chester

Or at least make them MTO/TS options?
