Not all shell cordovan is made equal, in quality and appearance. It is generally accepted that Horween shell is the best out there by a fair margin, but some of the other tanneries have different colors and properties to their shell.

I would also guess that AE has a good contract with Horween and doesn't realistically sell enough shell to pull from a different source for their 4 offered shell colors. Saying that they would sell more if it was discounted more is a really lame excuse as well considering you could be getting an inferior product that ultimately doesn't make AE much money anyway.

Agreed. Producing the same style shoes with different quality shell from different makers would be a crap shoot for the buyer.

Damn, those look good! I was tempted to buy those, but stuck with Plan A. I hope you’re right. Thing is, I’m waiting on three pairs right now. Need some patience. Took some restraint this shopping season to pass on some deals. Enjoy your new boots!

While I love the folks at Ealdwine, I had ordered a Whiskey Shell Cordovan belt back in July and they never shipped. When I reached out to them recently, Matt apologized and refunded me my money. Not sure if this meant my order was overlooked or they're having a hard time fulfilling orders for Whiskey Shell belts. All the more reason I wish AE would offer matching shell belts during their Trunk Shows! Imagine a Marbled Black or Marbled Dark Cognac shell Cordovan belt!

My hard work put in last night was realized on my feet today! Only had enough time to step away from my desk to snap a photo outside of these extremely dark Burgundy Shell Strands. Hoping they will develop a lighter and more vibrant shade of burgundy, but only time will tell.

Does the FR stamped on the sole stand for Factory Reject, Factory Recraft, or something else? Allen Edmonds Winchester zipper boots in 9476 Burgundy Polished Calf (not cobbler) from 1985. These boots fit very well and get a lot of attention. Since it's been rainy/snowy weather for a few weeks...
