After reading on this forum how great the Macneil shoe was, I was able to locate a pair in the shoe bank in my size. of course they are FS2 but as far as I could see, they suited my needs, along with a 30% discount.
They are Burgundy shell, which I love but they look like a older pair but a little brushing did wonders for them. The only defects I saw was the crease on the left pair and rolling on the right shoe.

My question is, how do you tell the age or manufactured date of a pair of shoes?

Welcome to the Mac Neil Club (MNC), we are a well dressed but desperately nostalgic group, longing for the days before these wonderful shoes were discontinued. Aaahh 2019, the good old days, when you could go on to AE.com and pick up a pair of Mac Neils at significant discounted and the mere thought of paying full price was met incredulity and even contempt.

Those are absolutely gorgeous. The classic burgundy shell and I'm guessing a pre-JR sole?

Size 14 E - please don't ever step on me!

Please let us know how they fit. I'm a perfect 9D in calf Mac Neils but my shell Macs are a little big, which reminds me I need to pick up a leather insole tomorrow.

I received two pairs of boots and a pair of shoes last week. I am going to test them out this week in the order of my purchase.

First up is a non-AE pair. (Shield your eyes if that’s a problem.)

I was able to specify the leather, heel shape, color of the stitching, and sole on these.

Look at the stitching.

Is that a branding tag on the tongue?

Pulled these MacNeils out. They got put away after they were discontinued. Unless they come back, these babies get very occasional wear.

I attached a photo of the sole, which is a JR sole.
The fit is like all of my AE shoes/boots, since left foot is 13 1/3 E & right foot is a 13 D.
My grandmother told me when I was a teenager, "A BIG man needs a BIG foundation".
Looking forward to wearing them this weekend, since I have been working from home since 2014, I only wear dress shoes on weekends but I will be sure and wear them with pride and tell anyone who ask about them, I belong to the MNC! IMG_0033.JPG

Those MacNeil's are from sometime around 2008. AE stopped including the numbers that show the week and year of production around this time of the infamous black insoles. Shoes from the early 2000s have a 4 digit number that indicates the week and year it was made.

Thank you for the information.
