I wanna swim away but don't know how. Sometimes it feels just like I'm falling in the ocean.
It's ****** that ae got rid of a classic American dress shoe staple.
Well, they gave us the Broadstreet for a limited release, I'm sure others will be coming back, too. From what I’ve been told they really weren’t huge sellers. Sure, we love them but I get them needing to trim modes that don’t sell well. I just wish they’d be more willing to bring them around for limited releases and trunk shows.
ProgressIf any of you narrow foot guys have been wanting the McTavish, here is your chance.
The fit in the heel has dramatically improved.
They are now offered in a B width.
Chestnut is off the chats in color.
The only downside is the translucent sole. That can be fixed down the road.
It’s all in the marketing my friend. Since they’ve been discontinued I know their customers beyond this forum have been contacting AE inquiring about Mac Neils. From what I’ve been told they really weren’t huge sellers. It may work since it comes with a Poron covered insole covered with a glove liner. The Poron seems to be lasted in the shoe. Which would make it close to an A width.Progress
B width gives me a fighting chance but if it’s still on the 201 I’ll probably still need an insert, or an A width
I believe that the MacNeil is to AE, what the enchorito was to Taco Bell. Taco Bell noticed that the enchorito was only 1% of their sales. So the dropped it off the menu. They soon discovered that their buyers of this item were buyers of big meals and they just left. That produced an immediate 5% drop in sales. That item was brought back as a special item really quick and business actually grew. Those MacNeil lovers might be big buyers and could just end up with a company that will supply all their footwear needs. FB might be the best advertising vehicle for their brick and mortar stores. It’s all in the marketing my friend. As much as I adore AE, I think they are really missing a lot of marketing opportunities. Their Twitter, Instagram and YouTube (possibly reddit) presence is weak. That’s where their potential next generation of customers comes from.
In the last two years I’ve seen Bedo’s, The Elegant Oxford and Trent & Heath become incredibly busy off cheaply produced YouTube videos. AE, with a minimal budget, could be hawking their shoes in the same way, showing their construction from start to finish and displayed with different trousers/outfits to give buyers a greater connection to the product. The world of mail catalogs to suburban dads is over. Social media is an extremely powerful tool and is being under-utilized by AE. But I’m just a humble lawyer what do I know?
Interesting analysis. I’ve never really eaten at Taco Bell and I abandoned Facebook because I grew sick of the politics and lame photos of kids, but I don’t doubt your wisdom.I believe that the MacNeil is to AE, what the enchorito was to Taco Bell. For years in Chicago I would walk past the AE stores on Michigan Avenue and La Salle, but would never go in. They seemed a bit intimidating, like many I’m shy and I just like to browse, which is hard in small stores with a helpful salesperson hovering. Then down the rabbit hole I fell and in 2019 I spent over $1500 on AE shoes, excluding eBay and Poshmark. And it was all a result of YouTube videos with no affiliation with AE.
