Errr... A boat shoe is a boat shoe. A penny loafer is a penny loafer.

Now, can it fill the same function in trad style outfit? Yes, it sure can.

For those clamoring for more pictures of Santa Monica Pier in shoe threads, California reopened today. Everything is now at 100% capacity again,"Social Distancing" is gone, and Fully Vaccinated people no longer have to wear face masks except in medical buildings, prisons, and homeless shelters.

For fans of "Sci-Fi becomes Sci-Reality" pictures in shoe threads, the food delivery robots on the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica don't look anything like the robots in Sci-Fi or horror films.

Since I brought up robots, robots and I have a rather checkered past. In the early eighties, when I still worked on the train from time to time, made many trips to San Diego. One of the other guys and I always used to walk down to a shopping area by the water and have lunch.

One day we were sitting down eating our lunch and a lttle robot rolled up to us and started talking to us. I told the robot we were eating and didn't want to talk with it. The robot kept talking.

I told the robot if it didn't go away I would kick it over the edge into the water. For some reason the robot didn't believe me, so I kicked it over the edge into the water.

The little robot may still be there. A few minutes later someone came up and started yelling at us. We ignored him.

It’s best to ignore people yelling about robots in the ocean and such.

Day two of three for the tumbled HM's, going out to eat Friday night so I'll break out the new Strand Weave's or maybe the Williamsburg.

First, shoes. RL x AE Singleton (?). Proof a 2 last loafer can actually work with high instep folks because of the cone on the 2 last (RIP).

Next, since most here could fairly be called shoe “enthusiasts,” which is pretty darn close to a hobbyist, I’m curious what interests other folks here have that competes for you time and your shoe dollar (well, other than paying the light bill, getting food, etc.).

We’ve seen cars, guns, woodworking tools. What say you?

I’m no guitar collector (and barely a player); up until a week or two ago I had one acoustic (HD-28) and one electric (Epiphone Les Paul). Now, however, I have welcomed to the stable my first hollow body: the first in 51 years made in USA Epiphone Casino (basically a Gibson ES-330 and made by Gibson).

If by function you mean shoes to wear on a boat - then no. Boat shoe soles are designed to 1) provide grip and 2 (and more importantly for my purposes if I’ve invited someone on my boat) to not pick up small rocks, gravel, sand so they don’t scratch and damage the deck. It’s why I ask people to take their shoes off when they step onboard if they’re wearing something else - especially flip flops or Tevas or whatever with lots of tread. It’s not an inexpensive repair if someone gouges the fiberglass because they had a rock stuck in the sole of the shoes they wore.

if you mean can they function with similar outfits and you don’t plan to wear them onto a boat (or a boat you care about) then sure but they aren’t the same thing.

Recall that when the Maritime was introduced there was a companion loafer with same material (Horween CXL) in pretty much the same colors. The name escapes me but it showed that a super casual loafer can act as the functional equivalent of a boat show and vice versa, as long as you don’t actually wear it on a boat.?

My last post may have given it away but time on the water on our boats and the summer house is the biggest competing hobby where the unexpected repair bills have killed off more commissions than any other hobby. Golf and watches are the others that I get eye rolls for. None elicit quite the same eye roll as a new pair of shoes arriving though.

Running...I love distance running, but life keeps getting in the way.
My time/money primarily used to be spent on my son, but that's gone a bit sideways as a teenager. Spent a reasonable amount on video games with him. Now, it's getting things done for the girlfriend that takes up most of my time and money!

I'd like to branch out
