Happy Wingtip Wednesday!

I'm breaking in another pair from RDA today. Too many times, and I know I'm not alone here, I've let new acquisitions sit for months before an initial wearing. Not these, I'm a huge fan of the Daltons and have picked up a shell pair a year for the last 3 RDA sales. It's getting to where I'm going to need to start lobbying to have them included in the TS again, because I'm running out of standard shell colors I want.

Burgundy shell Daltons. Another virgin pair of JR soles bites the dust (are we counting down yet? Too soon?)

Well, pals. Since I don’t use any other social media, I’ll share my good news here. Not shoe related…but Mrs. Vincent and I adopted Shirley and Monty yesterday. 8 month old brother and sister. Shirley was already checking out the shoe boxes this am. Might let them choose my pair for the day…

Looks like my recently deceased Fat Boo! (Exclamation mark is part of his name)

@BFT9000 Any interest in these? They are 8 E, but they would probably fit us well. I can tell you that the 8 D Kiowa I tried on (the same one as this) fit pretty tight at the instep. E width might actually work well. They look great from the exterior, but I cannot tell much about the insole. $69 is pretty cheap.

I saw that. Not very often a Kiowa in great condition pops up on eBay. One in size 8 is even rarer. I'm trying to behave myself because of the upcoming trunk show, so I'm probably going to have to pass...

@ae_ashley in light of ValidusLA's response to my last post, with the e-mail saying that there -are- Dominican Republican parts as per tariff laws, can you get a confirmation on exactly how MIUSA Allen Edmonds are? ARe any parts in the "handcrafted in the USA" constructed in the DR? Or are the shoes completely constructed in the USA from imported leathers, soles, laces, etc?

I always told myself if I had another chance at the Overlord in brown, I would jump. My first pair has a left shoe that was not constructed correctly and it fits too tight at the instep. Found these on Ebay for a cheap price. I just tried these on and the instep fit is how it should be. These were being sold as "pre-owned" but they very clearly are unworn. The Overlord is one of my favorites.

Allen Edmonds named a shoe the Overlord?

That's amazing. I don't know if I'd consider these shoes worthy of the epithet, but it is amazing.

It's basically the shoe version of the original kudu Normandy boot.

In regards to your questions about the DR vs. USA topic, that had been discussed previously on here a few times. I think a lot of people were kind of burnt out on it. I'm not criticizing you for bringing it up -- it's a valid concern. A long while back, the former CEO Mr. Grangaard stated that some of the uppers were being cut and stitched in the DR before being flown into Wisconsin. Whether or not AE is still doing this, I'm not sure. AE has always been a bit vague on this topic. I decided it wasn't a big deal to me, because I love AE shoes so much.

Yeah, it was mostly because ValidusLA and I got into a debate about the evidence. I'd like to know what the facts are. I love AE shoes, too, but I would like to know what is the case because we have this controversy between him and I over it.

It is true that uppers are stitched in the DR, it is also true that a small amount of uppers are stitched in the US. Think about the speed that TS shoes can be made. Not logistically possible if they relied on DR for every upper. At the end of the day, most of the upper stitching will take place where the talent is. Most of that talent lies in the DR. As for customs, AE will put all shoes in the same tax bucket as tracking each shoe for customs would be a nightmare.

It seems to me that any manufacturer would put "Made in the USA" on their products if they could. So instead Allen Edmonds has "handcrafted in Port Washington." It is my understanding that unlike "Swiss made" it is very tough to get something designated "Made in the USA."
