I've not worn a suit in years and already had a pair of black cap-toes (AE Byron - lol my first AE buy 15 years ago) so figured why not have some fun. I find solid black visually too 'heavy' to wear casually with denim, but breaking them up a bit with a coloured lace has served me well. Figured why not take the next step with these ones. I imagine I'll get more compliments on this pair than any pair in my collection even if true gentlemen may shudder at what I've done ;-).

Also nice is that the re-sole with Vibrams cost me less than US$100 and now i have a useful shoe that will do more than collect dust in the closet.

Again, I think they are fantastic and you are correct, not using black was the best choice.

Are these the soles?

I believe so.

I actually requested a yellow sole originally (like the Vibram logo colour) but my cobbler couldn't find any so he went with my 2nd choice, red.

I'm not trying to poke the bee hive, but I've never been a big fan of the U-tip. I own the Rothsay boots that have it, but not really my cup of tea. It looks unfinished to me, but that's just my point of view. Give me split toe or plain toe.

Just for fun, I compared the new natural vs. the old natural. You will get an idea of how much darker the new one is. I now know that going up 1/2 size in the Higgins is my best size. These fit really well. I may just sell off my old brown pair because they've always felt a little too snug in the ankles and leg area.

this seems perhaps a Horween change. I’ve ordered some CXL natty items from ashland recently that have come in darker.

also, @ae_ashley take it easy and get well soon!

Sometime earlier this year, Horween discontinued the old natural. They now have a new natural that is much darker. Looks pretty good, but not what most of us are used to with "natural."

I think that smaller companies that are only buying small quantities can still get very light CXL. But if you are buying larger amounts of hides, they cannot do it. So Horween has darker batches for higher volume buyers. I got the darker Natty. Just cause all my lighter natural has turned mid brown anyway.

Ah, now that would make sense. I know that even Alden had to stop offering it. Makes me really sad to see it go.

Don’t be sad. Woollymok is the new Natty. Although I just procured my second Woollymok and was told that not many are left. At $255, I am not taking any chances.

I concur, one of my favorite leather colors, even though it eventually winds up brown. There is something special about new, pristine Alden Natty.
