Haha, didn't know that my simple black shoe will create this much of a stir ?
As for the so-called style rules, whether outdated or modern, there is always room for individual interpretation depending on age, location, weather, event, mindset, overall aesthetic etc etc etc....hence I dont go into those details...ever.
Today I was wearing my black Waltons with a light blue denim shirt and black Levi's 501. Rules be damned!!

So you are saying that this is a definite no?

It may not be apparent in the picture but there is a separate piece of leather that creates the cap toe.

Any why only until 50? What happens after 50?
Actually, I meant between ages 21 and 50, not 13. I think PTBs are for 13-21 year olds or 50+!

Ya missed on the Jay Leno Double Denim look...why black Levis?!? Just the same shade or slightly darker (if you must) is fine!

I’m wearing a pair of black formal captoe boots today. I didn’t share a picture since I paired them with denim (and they’re Rancourt, not AE). But since it looks like rules don’t apply today, here you go.

Got my formal Higgies on today, too:

IMHO leather grain and a natural welt does not equal "formal". I would personally consider those a "casual" boot that would not be worn with formal/business attire.

Similarly, I would not consider that all black HM boot "formal".

Or did I miss the memo on what constitutes a formal boot?

Perfectly acceptable ?
And just to clarify, this is acceptable because of a few reasons.
1. They are wingtips, not cap toes
2. Black/white basketball shorts (Spud Webb sized guy wearing basketball shorts, go figure), not jean shorts
3. The black shoes/white socks are appropriately matchy-matchy with the shorts
4. Michael Jackson would have approved
5. Almost forgot - shell!

As a side note, I grew up watching my father mow the lawn in jean shorts, white athletic socks, and his black work shoes...

4. Michael Jackson would have approved...only if you were also wearing a bedazzled white glove.

You’re all wrong. Higgins Mill are for black tie attire.
