I concede belts do fall into the AE appreciation thread. Old fogies like me that follow the more pure belief that AE is a shoe company need to come into the new century and accept AE appreciation can have a wider scope.

Is anyone else struggling to get a pair of AEs without large defects from the factory? I just got 2 pairs of Jeffersons delivered and each had black smudges on the shoes. I've attached a picture.

Is the smudged shoe part of the same pair as is in your avatar? Whatever the case, they look great! Even though they do give me lace-gap envy. ☺

Good news. Quite wide in the toe box. Bad news. The 2072 last only comes in D and E width. It has got to be a hot seller before they invest in the EEE last.

So. Well. I lean more 2E. (11EEE in 65, but 11.5EE over EEE for TTS like 511 when I get really lucky on availability). But, in loafers I tend to go narrow and stretch the hell out of the pinkie area. Will consider.

Is anyone else struggling to get a pair of AEs without large defects from the factory? I just got 2 pairs of Jeffersons delivered and each had black smudges on the shoes. I've attached a picture.

Even any used pair I've ever purchased never had a smudge like that, much less any new one. Unless you've worn them (outside) already, I vote for exchanging the pair.

It’s hard to tell from this picture. It looks like it might just be a little dark polish. If you have some cream polish, put some on there and rub it around. It should dissolve that and remove it. It only takes about 30 seconds.
