Lol. Good story. Seems you too have shoe stories to recall...albeit some more fond than others. ? You know, I could be wrong but just anecdotally, I think shoes could be the article most recalled as a childhood memory associated with a parent. Or at least high up on the list!

Hmmm. Maybe? My dad wasn't too much into shoes, actually. I did always get a kick out of his vietnam era army boots but I don't think he ever conditioned them even once and the leather was in bad shape even as far back as my memory goes. Pretty sure they hit the trash after he broke his ankle trying to shovel snow with them in his late 60s or 70s. The soles were hard as a rock with little if any tread so I'm not too surprised. I think for me... in this type of realm, I think maybe it was more shaving / after shave kinda stuff (even though my Dad isn't a traditional shaver). Or perhaps ties.

That message is inconsistent with the Oath of Weaseldom.
It’s always appropriate to have a belt that matches your shoes. In fact, the best solution is to have multiple belts of each color. You can get different textures, patterns, leathers that change the look.
The correct answer is to buy another belt. And repeat.

I am starting to relent to taking that route. Yes, it can border on "matchy" but imho outweighs the proposition of having to figure out how to compromise the least on your daily shoe/belt combo. And besides, it's something more to buy! ?

Sadly AE doesn't make a navy shell belt, so I can't do that with the Fifth Streets.

Bourbon and walnut and burgundy shell and chocolate(ish) suede round out the collection for me.

Spose I should probably get a black one at some point...

Impressions of the Dylan:
Made in the DR. Handsewn. It is a real moccasin construction. If the welt is glued in place, they must have used a large tooth welt but it could be a slip/midsole type of thing that is stitched to the moccasin. There is a leather covered pad that is glued on top of the moccasin. A thick piece of fiberboard is nailed down at the heel. I would think the rubber/leather sole is built for AE and is a one piece unit. The rapid stitch is really close to the upper with 6 to 7 stitches per inch. The rubber is consistent with faux Dainite. The heel has the smiley face but not the nail holes that you see on Dainite. Since the dimples come thru the leather sole pretty far, the leather hardly touches any walking surface. The sole is leather but not any leather of high quality. The upper is open pore older calf. Most likely a kip skin, which is still premium leather. The actual leather color is a green with a light brown burnish over the top. Feels like a water based olive burnish juice. The final color reminds me of a Rancourt olive boot. I am sure one of our size 15 foot Brothers has a pair to compare. Overall a very good build with good workmanship. Much better than a department store lookalike. The shoe is easy to wear and even though the last is a roomy last the padding takes up a good portion of room. For comparison I would walk right out of a Randolph or any other welted loafer made by AE in a 9.5D. But this loafer stays on with no heel slip and I am wearing a no show sock that is thin as hell. A common problem with this type of sole is rubber/leather detachment. This would cause a creak but not really a squeak. At the $150 price I paid, I can say it is pretty damn good. As far as sole durability, I will report with more wear. By the time I have that data AE will be 2 Handsewns further in their rotation. I don’t see this style lasting past loafer season.
Took the wife out for a quick bite. I waited till she went to the restroom and snapped a few shots. For fans of shoes in their shoe thread I took this shot.

If you like teddy llamas in your restaurant.

We settled on some shrimp soup and an exotic salad. Or at least that is what they called it.

Overall I like the Dylan but I am a sucker for non welted evening shoes.

Nice write up! The low volume sounds good, but how are they width wise compared to other lasts? Low volume good, narrow bad for me.

Good news. Quite wide in the toe box. Bad news. The 2072 last only comes in D and E width. It has got to be a hot seller before they invest in the EEE last.
