I was looking at my Chesters and came to the conclusion that if I purchased these when they were made, I probably would have sent back. These antique burgundy have a finish that reminds me of my recent pair of Wooster Street shoes. The Chesters even new in box had what look like tiny micro creases. The calf is even a bit bumpy in places. But because they are made with prime soles, almost no trench on the out stitch and some other touches that you do not see today, I cherish this shoe. Below, I took a few shots in different lighting.

The dark (black?) Pair it almost looks like a feature, that I kind of appreciate. The burgundy looks more like polished cobbler.

People will be people, no matter what. The Prime rib at 5 bucks a lb is a great deal BTW.

hell if it’s really prime rather than choice it would be a great deal at $9.99

Dude, this post....just wow. This is definitely going to be my #1 spot for most useful and informative post of 2020 I'm pretty certain. I've tried the 64-lasted styles but not the Mercer, and I've always maintained that no matter what I or anyone else advises you, you never know if something is actually going to work until you try it for yourself. But based on this post, I can "know" without a doubt that the Mercer would NOT work for me in any available size.

Now I know what winning an academy award must feel like, having the legend @Neo1 give such praise to a post about last fit!

Glad you found it useful. It's been a real learning experience trying to get into loafers.

What color and type of pants would everybody wear with the denim strandmok/neumok?
Tans and darker blues would work too.

Reading the exchange between Rithrin and Neo is a great example of the helpfulness and good naturedness found in this thread.

That said, and with respect for all ... what’s the deal with “drivers?” What is their appeal? Do people literally change shoes to drive to and from somewhere? Or do they just see them as a superior casual comfort shoe to, eg a boat shoe, camp moc, tennis shoe, etc.?

Drivers were invented in Italy in the 60s, and were specifically made for guys who drove high-powered sports cars and needed the extra grip that the rubber nubs in the soles gave their feet on the pedals. Then Tod's got into the act and everybody wanted a pair.:

I have a pair of shearling drivers I use as winter house shoes, but I'm not going to wear them out and about to see them wear too quickly and be thrown out!
