You might remember that Rancourt is having a pre-sale on a couple of boots in various CXL and suede options. The camel suede Byron has my attention.

I just received a pair of Rancourt Byron boots today, in case you’re interested in seeing them “in the wild.”

I contacted Rancourt about making these in that spruce kudu that I had recently seen on another boot (non-Rancourt). They purchase kudu and checked into it for me. It turned out that due to minimum order quantities and shipping costs, they weren’t going to be able to order it for one pair. They didn’t give up so quickly though. They checked their inventory of leather samples and found a piece of spruce kudu that was large enough to make me a pair. Three weeks later and these are at my door.

These came with two sets of laces, two boot bags, a shoe horn, and a set of coasters (which I assume were cut from the little bit left from their sample).
How awesome is that?

Still OT but, I also love the Byron, which looks close to the same pattern as this pair of Eliots
(Horween olive Bulldog leather)

Your spruce pair is an awesome color, nice sleuth work there!

PSA--Woodlore has shoe trees on sale, 20% off.
Epics are $24
Combination and Full are twofer $30.

I love the Epics, they are my favorites, but are pricey. Just have a few of them.
Mostly I have the Combination trees, because my foot is a weird shape so I figure they might adjust a little better to my long, narrow, flat foot shoes.

What is the case for buying the Full trees? Would they be better for boots, or??

Nice shoes! I'm having an existential crisis with the same pair. I can't figure out what thickness socks to wear with these things, since I have virtually no instep.

My speed hooks are almost touching, and I wanted to wear mine with dress socks, but medium weight feel the best. It's the darn principle of the whole thing that bothers me!

I sized down 1/2 on my shell 1A pair. Even with that, there is a lot of room in the instep!

That is what I'd like to try with the 1A--size down ½--but they don't make a 12.5. At least, not until now. I hope they will go to a full run of sizes and widths with the 1A, as they've done with Strand and some others.

It's not that I don't like them, just don't wear them. Around here they are mostly a summer shoe (in my mind at least) and just don't seem to have occasion to wear them. I bought them for a specific reason when they came out and they were perfect for that.

Ah, I see. I am corresponding from an island off the Gulf Coast of Florida; my entire rotation is available to me 365 days/year.

On another note, I am percolating on the Bartlett. Unbelievably, it is now $295 (with 20% discount added in cart) on the AE site, which is @$40 more than the factory second. Is the Bartlett being discontinued...? Am I unlikely to ever see a first-quality Bartie at this price...?

2nds are also 20% off so $100 cheaper than the 1sts.

Believe they are being discontinued, so they could get cheaper but I doubt it’s worth the risk that your size gets sold out.

That's an impressive first post! those walnut Daltons, mmm mm

Flat feet and skinny ankles here.
I wear crew socks to fill the boot shafts a little better on roomier boots.
But not with FAs. Wouldn't even attempt that boot, on the 201, unless they offer a 13A or a 12.5B. Which they haven't, thus far.

My friend, I just picked up a set of pedag viva minis (3/4 orthotic) for the explicit purpose of adding some arch support and inste-volume. It helps tremendously without changing the necessary shoe size.

I prefer the full toe for the extra amount of cedar since they seem to be larger version split toe. I can see why someone would prefer the split toe if their foot was oddly shaped, like yours!

Rolling into Sunday with a new shirt with extra long collars for collar roll and wool flannel pants. Nicely aged color 8 on the bottom.
